    I use a wire brush on a bench grinder…works really well..easily cleans between the teeth and flutes just need to be careful if the writing is printed instead of stamped

    These kind of posts go much too deep…all it needs is some phosphoric acid to neutralise the rust, and then a good zinc galvanised paint

    Useful Centre Punch

    I regularly find them at car boot/ flea markets costing only pence…I’ve got quite a few different sizes The point can be ground off, making a useable pin punch

    The old Rawlplug Number 8, makes a great centre punch for use on metals etc, great for use on small items where precision is required.

    There is no adjustment, it shouldn’t be so stiff…i hVe a few of them different sizes that I’ve picked up a car boots etc over the years…none of them are stiff to use, maybe because they’ve been well used. Id strip it down as you suggest to find out what’s causing the problem..there’s not much to...

    Phosphoric acid is the one to use…it’s what’s in most rust removing products Stronger and more effective than citric acid….Google it…

    PlusGas or WD 40

    Sea foam penetrating oil is reall good..but expensive.. I remember going to an Ideal Home exhibition way back in the 60s, where they were demonstrating WD40 by the demonstrator immersing a running Black & Decker drill into a glass container full of water after spraying it with the WD40…crazy...

    I think I've screwed up - Help!

    Sounds like the motor has burnt out…you can easily check the armature and field windings with a basic multimeter….lots of info on YouTube….good luck
