    Thanks for having me onboard

Thanks. I will have a look for that. I have seen lots of used scaffolding on different websites, but it would be good to have a company put a package together. The kwikstage is a system I had looked at as being DIY 'friendly'

Vintage Dividers - does anyone know this maker Maker Smith & Edwards ?

They do look older and I don't believe it's the same company. What made me wonder was that Edwards was in the marine corps and they sold government surplus. The still sell dividers today

    Router to cut Aluminium

I need to cut a 10mm wide slot in a 6mm thick bit of aluminium. Has anyone used a Bench mounted router and really good TCT bit for this? I think I would secure the angle aluminium to a large bit of wood first so I can restrict it's movement and handle easier. Really light cuts. Any thoughts?

Very Dim Laser Light on Makita LS1018

Worth taking it to bits and see if you can find what's causing it. Could be the laser is faulty, or just needing the focus adjusted if it has adjustment. Check the voltage at the laser end £7 is OK for a replacement. 66 is the laser module with wires out the back like this

Very Dim Laser Light on Makita LS1018

The reason I suggested that is because I had a Saw and the laser was useless, very broad line. I never rely on them anyway. One day I decided to have a look to see what was wrong. It had a big plastic cover over the laser. D'oh!!! 🤡 I'm sure there was something in the instructions, but I never...

Metabo mitre saw ks216m damaged help needed

Welcome to the forum Daniel. 66 views and no replies yet, probably means that no one has that saw. You would have got an answer if they did. You might still get a response yet.

Very Dim Laser Light on Makita LS1018

Unlikely, but they often have translucent covers over the laser. It could be used in test. shows it's working, but very diffused, so no danger. Make sure it's not got one.

Is this goodbye to my trusty Makita?

I have used two mole grips before to undo one of these ratchet chucks. They really get stuck. I think when they get worn something happens when you drill to lock it up. I can hand tighten my chuck, but need mole grips to open it. Grip as tight as possible with mole grips in the two parts of the...

    Thanks for having me onboard

Welcome to the forum. You've certainly had your share of injuries!! I also love to make stuff from scrap materials I hate seeing stuff getting thrown out when it could be re-purposed. Years ago, before council re-cycling, when I went to the dump with stuff, I always came home with more than I...

Vintage Dividers - does anyone know this maker Maker Smith & Edwards ?

apart from the uses in woodwork, possibly navigation dividers? They look as if they would be easy to walk them across a chart. Possibly here "Smith & Edwards' History Smith and Edwards's humble beginnings began in 1947 in the backyard of Bert Smith's West Ogden home. He and his Marine Corps...

    Sir Clive Sinclair

Sometimes components can be 'rejected', but still work perfectly. They may be on the edge of test limits. Different companies set different tolerances. I worked for a company which got the very best of optical transceivers, so the ones we didn't want were sold to other customers. It is just...

    Thread dies, question.

Make sure you are using the correct diameter stock as already suggested. I start my threading in the pillar drill or the lathe to make sure it starts perpendicular to the die. I don't run the drill, just do it manually. When you get started, transfer to a vice, I do a quarter turn, then back...

    Log burner flue issue

I think your best chance is a multifuel with rear flu and come through the wall directly behind the stove the horizontal length could be enclosed with rockwool around. Fit something like sound baffle boards (check flammability) around the rear of the fire. On the outside flue going up the wall...

What a fantastic machine. As soon as I finish this, I'm going to have a look in my garage. Hope I find something as good. :)

What is your most useful tool

That's like asking which is your favourite child! I really couldn't choose between bandsaw, mitre saw, pillar drill, sander, cordless drill/impact driver. My most used and productive tools.

    New scam yesterday.

looking for money? or was it some other scam. I once played along with a scammer and had them go to their local Western Union office to pick up the money I sent, lol not once, but twice, before the penny dropped.....or not, in their case.

Decisions you have to live with.

That is a beautiful letter plate. They don't fetch a huge amount unfortunately. I like the idea of leaving it in the house. I see Toolstation even sell the pre-stripped version! 🤣
