Building a workshop in an old stone built barn

That looks very like a very old worn out byre. The cows stood on the left, probably for milking. The channel on the floor is where all the cr@p was washed/brushed away. You rent it and you are going to spend a considerable amount of money to make it usable? Any possibility you have your own...

Buying jaws for 3 jaw chuck

You could just get a 1 1/2, 8tpi backplate for mounting a new chuck. That would widen your choice considerably.

Thanks, Yes, both pointing in the correct direction. Tractor tracks on the ground point to the direction it came from 😁

    Hello

Welcome to the forum. I'm a great fan of old cast iron tools and have a few. The one I cannot find is a thicknesser

    New Toy

The nose weight of the lift is quite high. Hopefully traction will be OK. I will probably have to put some weight on the front to stop wheelies. Got the tyres fitted today. One or two problems getting the wheels off and fitting the new tyres to the rim, but eventually got it done

"Well, I woke up this mornin'..."

That's pretty shocking. Like you, I haven't used any cheques for years.

    New Toy

They arrived. I should get them fitted in the next couple of days and try them out.

    Reverse direction turning safety

If it is a real concern, you should be able to program the stopping time on the VFD and change it from 3 seconds to something more sensible for a big chuck. It could be PD 015 to set the deceleration time and PD026 to set the deceleration mode .

"Well, I woke up this mornin'..."

You might have some strange restrictions on your property you weren't aware of. For example in my deeds it says ""I am not at liberty to open or keep a public house or to retail spirits or malt liquors within the bounds of said plot"" but more interestingly it says I cannot build another...

"Well, I woke up this mornin'..."

I managed to get a copy of the title deeds. Was very interesting to read the history of the house and owners over the years. Built in 1875, we are only the 4th owners.

    Lathe Tool Storage Rack

I just got a long bit of wood and drilled appropriate sized holes/spacing for the different tools. I have a separate holder for large tools. These are just functional items for me, but could be made to look much nicer with a bit of effort. About once a month I give the whole workshop a blast...

"Well, I woke up this mornin'..."

Congratulations 😁 😁 Redemption day is very nice, a lovely feeling. We kept a £1 mortgage, so the building society kept the title deeds. Cheaper than going to a solicitor. It also meant should we need another mortgage for anything, we didn't have to make a new application and may be advantageous...

what does the inside of this door panel look like to people?

At least they are treating it seriously and having everything tested.

    Maxing out a Startrite 18 S 10 Bandsaw

+1 for asking Ian. Have you read the very good guidance on choosing a blade on his site. It says the M42 is very good for reclaimed timber. It also suggests that wider blades are not always the best choice if the machine can't tension it properly. It looks like the Startrite could. When I first...

The manual edge fettler. Who needs a shooting board!?

Madness, but quite brilliant. I think it's a really fascinating idea. Look forward to seeing how things go

    Repointing using lime mortar

not sure if I have a few years left!! 😁

what does the inside of this door panel look like to people?

I think there is a high possibility it is asbestos. It was commonly used in fire doors in older buildings. The hotel owners should have been aware of this and taken measures when the door was damaged. If it was, the risk to yourself and wife is very very low, but you need to find out for sure...

That was one of the cheapest models we had seen. Second hand prices are silly.

    Reverse direction turning safety

I had a chuck spin off my metal lathe while turning a screw thread. I leave the half nut engaged and spin the late back to the start for thread cutting. It gave me a fright, because my instinct was to catch it and I did, but it could have been nasty with some odd bit of metal in the chuck. I 3D...
