    Looking for Wheels for Planer/Thicknesser

I just made a mobile platform for my planer and every other large power tool I have. The planer has two fixed and two lockable swivel nylon castors on 36mm chipboard. Works well, but I should have used swivel castors all round. The table is 1.2m and the planer is 230Kg, so it takes a bit of...

    Suggestions for future heating system

I would have a rocket mass heater in my house, but there are no regulations for them, so no way to fit just now. They are brilliant.

and with winter coming, all that wind and rain, the power bills should be going down!!

Convert cheap battery drills to mains elec (UK)

What voltage are the units? 12V is a lot easier than 18V. A good 18V drill may require possibly 300-500W peak power, around 20A-30A. If your drill is that kind of power and you want full capability, you will need a suitably powerful PSU. They are available, at 12V. A computer PSU's and Amazon...

Guitar making. a lovely video to watch

I am not into guitar making, or play the guitar, but I found this video fascinating to watch. The skill and attention to detail is amazing. $14500 (upwards) of skill and detail!!

    Which Fuse ?

It is not a good idea to replace a 3A fuse with a 13A. Reason is that theoretically, (depending on the design) a fault could develop which draws a steady 12.5A. This will not blow the 13A fuse, but will overload the mains cable fitted to the unit. It may overheat causing a fire. That 12.5A...

    Hello everyone.

Welcome to the forum. You have some very nice equipment in your workshop, but it is your profession. I'm still jealous!! :giggle:

Using flashing tape as roofing material

I think Flashband would look pretty bad. It would make a beautiful shelf unit look cheap and nasty. Just doesn't do the unit justice. You could slate it, but it's a bit small unless you cut the slates to scale. I think wooden shingles would look fantastic.

    Double Glazing or not?

Now that you describe how it's done, I have seen that. It helps when it's designed in when the building was constructed. I thought you had devised a cunning method of doing it on a more modern build. I was trying to think of a reliable way of doing it.

    Double Glazing or not?

Would like to know how you do that? I was just thinking of doing something similar.

    Anyone good with dishwashers?

Ah, then not that. As you say, could be a PSU problem, if you are confident, might be worth having a look around for obvious damage. It has to be a pretty low level fault, otherwise it would give a fault indication. Did you try here? might be worth contacting them, although they will probably...

    Planer identification and history?

They might like to get a picture of it for their records. They do say "the Company was believed to have been founded just after the end of WW2, they were little known outside their local area and appear to have been almost a cottage industry with a limited though well-made range of products" so...

    Planer identification and history?

I assume you will have found the article on Lathes.co.uk about the Sherwood lathe made by the same company Might be worth asking them to see if they have any more info?

    Anyone good with dishwashers?

There must be a way of resetting it, or it could be stuck. Have a look at the attached PDF. I think the trip device is part 6630, shown on page 2 (assuming your unit has one), so it's down the bottom at the back. It looks like a paddle lever, so try twisting, pushing, pulling, see it it moves...

Just wondered, trips the circuit breaker or the earth leakage circuit breaker?

    Anyone good with dishwashers?

My dishwasher is very temperamental especially if I speak to her in the wrong way!! There could be a tripping device on the unit. If you have been moving it about or it's not level, or stuck, it may shut it down??

    New chuck question

You are correct. My post wasn't very clear. What I was meaning to show is that RDG had made an 'OK' job of mounting the chuck to the backplate. There was about 1 thou run-out. The chuck is a DIN 6350, which will have a specification for max Axial run-out. I'm not sure what the max is.

    New chuck question

I have a 100mm 4 jaw, self centre HBM. I got it from RDG. It has a backplate. I have a Myford ML7 and it is huge compared to my 80mm 3 jaw Pratt. Twice as heavy. The HBM is pretty good quality and accurate enough for what I do. I'm really happy with it. I just quickly checked. Run-out is about 1...

My thicknesser has munched its innards

Here is an interesting head-to-head. Full article here. You take all these reviews with a pinch of salt, but the end result was this. The Triton TPT125 did very well considering the price.
