Post a photo of the last thing you made

More 3D printed stuff. The wrench is a collaboration with someone who is better at modelling than I am! It's a tool for locking the Bull wheel on a Myford ML7, but still prototype. My original design is in the middle and works very well for slackening or tightening the chuck. Once finished, the...

    Bargain of the day!

Apparently, you can put it in a mesh bag, low temp in the washing machine, but never tried that. It must make a heck of a noise. I just put it all in a sink of water with washing up liquid and shuffle it about for ages, rinse, then soak in disinfectant, rinse again. I dry with a high pressure...

    Sanding Metal--Which Sandpaper to use?

I sometimes use nylon filament abrasive brushes. Available from different manufacturers in different grades. They are not quite as aggressive as wire wheels and almost no sparks. Also wire hand brushes, flap wheels, Abranet, Wet and dry, electrolysis, wire wool, stainless steel pot scrubbers, T...

I'm not sure which version it was, but if the V1 was slower, then it will have been. I will look next time I'm there.

My son gave me a small 3D printer for Christmas. Great fun playing with it. I tried a few modelling programs, but FreeCad seemed a good choice at the moment. Made a simple filler for the lathe.

dewalt 1st fix nail gun review

My son-in-law has a couple of the 18V units 5Ah batteries, which I have used, I didn't like them. I find them slow to fire and often jam with proper DeWalt nails. The advantage of course is no mains/compressor required, which is why he got them. They have a fair chunk of land with boundary...

Riving knife alignment changes with blade height

Really irritating when you get something new and you have a problem like this. Especially on something so expensive. Contact Axminster. You might have have to suffer them saying you set it up wrong and it's withing tolerance etc, etc but there is a general video from them on setting a knife, in...

    Heating a workshop question

Insulate, insulate, insulate, then add some more insulation. Aim for a zero enery design. It may be too expensive to add all the insulation initially, but I would design everything so I could top up the insulation at a later date.

    Which bench top thicknesser?

I am not familiar with the standards, but it could be related to cutter projection. Perhaps the square cutter head exceeds the cutter projection. There are often ways round these kind of issues, but it usually means some modification to the machine, such as some kind of insert added to the head...

New years eve dressing up ideas

Darn it, the Solstice has just passed otherwise I would have dressed as an animal. I still have the Winnie the Pooh outfit in the loft somewhere. Some great pictures. I did stop while cycling and observe the solstice for a couple of minutes.

Nearly put this in the joke thread

It sounds a fabulous place, a bit of history:- In the 1980s, The RVT became known as ‘The Palladium of Drag’ with stars such as Paul O’Grady as Lily Savage who had an 8 year, 4 times a week residency, Hinge & Brackett, Diana Dors, Regina Fong, Adrella, The Trollettes and Lola Lasagne. In the...
