JET Jet JDP-15B-M Bench Pillar Drill reviews

I see there are 5 different model numbers for world sales (USA, NZ/Australia, Canada, Europe and UK) . The laser feature is not available in all markets. That suggests it's possibly due to compliance and all CE marked units would be affected. Not sure if the laser option is available in Europe...

Why use a cyclone on your vac for power tools?

With a cyclone system you get 'full airflow' all the time. A bag will progressively get clogged and offer more resistance to airflow. Most domestic vacuums use cyclones these days. The king of the cyclone cleaner is Dyson. I use one of the early Dyson DC01 cleaners for extraction from small...

    Small Portable Dust Collector

I use an old Dyson DC01 on small tools. It's a cyclone design, and works really well. I make adaptors for different tools on the 3D printer. I also have an old Aqua vac driving a cyclone on my planer and table saw, another on my bench mounted router. I have a Rexon 1000M3/H on my bandsaw and...

    Milling job required Manchester

When I work with large-ish chunks of steel on my Myford, I clamp the steel in the chuck, but not really tight and not all the way in. I then use the tailstock with a centre to push the steel into the chuck. If the chuck is quite tight, but not fully tightened, it makes the steel align with the...

Ever wonder how they did computing before computers?

Technology is great when it works, but when it doesn't it's worse than useless. It absolutely drives me insane, because the designers have never experienced the frustration caused when it fails. I have a saying 'Whoever designed this never actually used it.' I drove around for about 3 years...

Ever wonder how they did computing before computers?

An early example of an analogue processor is Stonehenge and other stone circles. It comprises a bit of hardware (the stones) which has an input (the sun) shining through an aperture to cast a shadow (the output) which indicates the mid winter sun. It has an iterative program, where someone...

    Milling job required Manchester

+1 for lathe. I do it for making square end weights for a model making friend, but only in 1" square X 4" steel bar. 4"x2"x5" will be about 7Kg, so needs a reasonable size lathe. It should only take a few minutes to do if it's reasonably square to start with. . It doesn't need to be set up very...

    Advise on screws

Here is another good option. They are available in different sizes, but note the warning about swing/cantilever brackets. If you are mounting something like a TV on the wall, you need to get it secured to the wooden uprights. If the spacing doesn't work, I would attach a horizontal cross member...

    Connection problems

Have you checked the Ethernet cable isn't trapped under the leg of your chair. It stops the megabits getting along the cable. 😁

A post about nothing much at all.

A few years ago, before council re-cycling got serious, there were open skips for people to dump rubbish. My wife hated when I went to the dump. I always came back with more than I took. I can see uses for any metal or wood. I even stop when cycling on the road to pick up bolts and pins that...

    Micrometer break in?

I'm sure you know, but some mechanical micrometers have a barrel lock. If it was partially engaged, it would make the adjustment feel tight.

    Anybody else love bandsaws?

My bandsaw is one of my most versatile tools. I use it all the time. As the OP said. very easy to set up and accurate enough for most things I do. It's a pleasure using tools that are easy to use, pretty safe and do what they are supposed to.

    Joke Thread II

I've had a lifelong ambition to play a Cyclops in a horror movie. It's a pretty rare role to find, but I'm keeping an eye out for it.

Any experience of wood splinter gone into your finger? - How did you get it out?

I don't have access to one now, but when I worked in electronics I could use the X20 stereo microscope in the lab. It was absolutely perfect for removing even the tiniest metal skelf . Great magnification, great lighting, a supply of scalpels and some IPA to sterilise the area after the...

    Fixing a poorly designed chair

First thing I would try is using a cross dowel in the leg to hold it firmer in the bracket. If the leg doesn't fit well in the bracket, I would use some two part wood filler to ensure the leg is seated in the bracket properly.

    Dodged a bullet———almost

I think it's been fired, I'm sure there are rifling marks on the bullet. It's lead filled in a copper case. No charge inside. If fired into a tree, the wood pressure would tend to retain the shape of the bullet. Remember it is spinning. There are many pictures of perfectly shaped bullets...
