The cost of a microwave on standby

Unfortunately, it won't make much of a difference, possibly increase the red tape. From the first of Jan 23, there will be a new requirement. Rather than CE marking, it will be UKCA for the internal market . This will be based on existing standards. If a company wishes to export, they will...

    Angle Grinder Direction of Rotation

Normally, I use my angle grinder the same way as you, so the angle grinder is rotated 180 degrees compared to the 'correct' picture above. I find that gives me the best control.

The cost of a microwave on standby

I've just had a great idea, I'm sure it's been thought of before, but a single really cheap device could be fitted to all electrical devices which would instantly solve the standby problem. It's a thing called a switch. It has two positions. If you put it in one position it connects the device...

    Micro Butane Torch

I borrow the one from the kitchen. I use it all the time for getting heat into inaccessible places, bearings and seized bolts, also soldering larger items where my soldering iron can't cope. I must get my own one.

    Relocation to Lake Tahoe CA

I would say, go for it. You can always come home, or go elsewhere if it doesn't work out. I have spent a lot of time working in San Jose C.A. I worked for an American company in Scotland. I really loved being there. The weather, the vast selection of products available 24 hours a day. I had the...

    What’s with this Scam?

I've just sent an email to Jill telling her of my struggles and troubles. When my cheque for USD15. 500 000.00 arrives, I'm taking everyone out for a few pints. I would leave a couple of days free at the end of next week. I should get it by then. ;)

EMC Standard EN/IEC 61000 3-2, ensures the power factor is within requirements. It looks at the harmonic currents generated by equipment. It applies to equipment of up to 16A per phase. I think the latest revision came into force in 2017.

Ever wonder how they did computing before computers?

if there was any substance in my argument, the answer would be no, but it's just a fun idea I use. If the accelerating expanding universe did cause time to change, it would actually slow it down, but by a miniscule amount..... I think?

    Drill Sharpening

I'm half reasonable at sharpening drills, I look at a new one first, then try to copy the angels whilst fresh in my memory. I generally don't bother doing really small drills. I buy them in bulk.
