    CCTV, workshop security

Who manufacturers it. That sounds interesting. My son-in-law has a similar situation to yours, an entrance which is far from the house.

    Woden - who they?

Possibly from Woden, the Saxon's god of war?

    Woden - who they?

Some interesting stuff here. I find the history of these old companies absolutely fascinating. Just look at the range of tools they made.

Cleaning light rust from ribbed jet planer thicknesser bed

I wouldn't bother doing anything except use it.

    Watts Brothers morticer?

drool!!!!! that looks like a real machine. Watts Brothers seems to be listed as a woodworking machinery maker, jointer, spindle moulder, so there is a good chance the complete machine is made by them. I love the design on the counterweight on the lever. I guess it must swing forward as the...

    Sharpening Forstner bits/

Perhaps it's time to treat yourself to a new set? or drop hints for Birthday/other celebration gift?? There are so many different designs of Forstener bits I doubt they could make anything to cope with all variations. I have a set of really small diamond files, Flat/triangular/round/half round...

With all due respect, you have misunderstood what I was saying. My post was not aimed at the OP. I don't think there is any point continuing this 'conversation' It's irrelevant to the thread. I wish you well.

    Imperial drill bits

Possibly because the US never fully adopted the metric system?, but having worked for an American company manufacturing in the far east, all drawings were metric. It is a bit of a mess, but dividing imperial sizes in two is easier than metric.

I did said 'with all due respect'. 50 years is a lot of experience and I say it again with all due respect, but I still think you are misunderstanding what I am saying and what my original comment was about. The user had a 12V camera connected via long power leads, so in order to compensate for...

    CCTV, workshop security

With all due respect, I think you have mis-read what is happening. You are correct there used to unregulated linear supplies, but that's not what I am referring to in this particular case. The OP has long power leads going to his camera, so to compensate for the voltage drop, they have to...

Just a caution, there is a potential problem with this if you connect the camera when the PSU is already on. A 12V camera might have an absolute maximum rating of, say 13V (as an example). Anything over that may cause damage. If you connect a live supply to the camera, the supply is open...

    INTERLINKED SMOKE AND HEAT ALARMS

It is my understanding that these systems will not meet the legal requirements in Scotland, because they don't have an interconnected heat detector, but it's only Scottish households that need to be concerned. I think there is a clause in the legislation that you just have to meet the 'essential...

    Imperial drill bits

Darn it!! I had looked out the 1000 8X1" slotted wood screws I kept in the loft. Thought I could sell them on Gumtree. I have no idea how I will get rid of the 5000 M10 X 1" bolts!! I saved from a skip

    Recommendations for a Planer/Thicknesser

I would spend some time looking for a good old cast iron machine. See what's out there before splashing out on a new one, but the good ones are absolute monsters, weight wise.

    Office chair gas cylinder....

I wouldn't open one......not unless clamped very securely in a vice so it couldn't launch itself into part of my anatomy. I have a couple of them in my garage waiting for an idea. Got them in a skip. might use them in a little hot frame with a hinged lid. Also good for strength training for...

    Drummond lathe

The original part looks as if it has a keyway and a key? the key seems to be two widths. I was just pulling your leg. It will be rev 3 before it can go into space. 😁

    Drummond lathe

😁 Who said I was a competent designer?? My 3D model was just a very quick sketch to show it could be achieved. It wasn't going out into space. That capability comes in the second revision.

    INTERLINKED SMOKE AND HEAT ALARMS

On the mains powered units I have, the battery are replaceable PP3. I also forgot to say, I used wired, because I couldn't be sure the RF would connect over the length of my house and wall thickness. WiFi won't but I suspect the RF interconnect would be more sturdy and fail safe if connection...
