Fobco drill with a long nose - can it be swapped out?

It's a rare model, if it's not causing an issue, why change it? I think it looks really different. I wonder why they produced that version with the extended spindle.

Should I cut my arbor to be able to bore deeper?

For those interested in old books and the history of machine tools, here is the Morse catalogue. I think it's the 1915 edition. Edit: file didn't upload, so probably too large, so here is a link to it. Download options are on the left.

Should I cut my arbor to be able to bore deeper?

Everything you wanted to know about Morse tapers, but were afraid to ask:-This shows the dimensions of different tapers. I got this from the Morse Twist Drill and Machine Company catalogue when I was looking for information on my 1146 tap wrench. It shows the dimensions of the taper, tongue...

    Home Lift

I wouldn't trust one of those hoists for lifting any person. You don't know what the failure mode is. It would be horrific if it failed and the person plummeted several metres to the ground. I know it's probably very unlikely, but just too risky without a failsafe backup.

    Fobco drill press clean up

I wouldn't worry too much about the clamp at the moment. Once you have the main body of the drill set, I doubt you will ever move it again. The table goes up and down to accommodate larger things on the table. Just make sure the body is clamped tightly to the column. In this instance, having a...

    Fobco drill press clean up

It is handy to have a collar to prevent what happened to your drill, but the drill has a clamp which grips the pillar, You possibly had slackened it.

    Hello from Malvern

Welcome to the forum. You have had an interesting journey through life and set yourself quite a challenge with your chess board, but that's what can often lead to real innovation. You don't seem the type to quit when faced with a challenge, so it will be interesting to see if you can make your...

    Fobco drill press clean up

The switch was on the other side of the drill body, so by removing the plate, you get access to it from behind. The plastic box on the side uses the original mounting hole for the switch. You might be able to find a used replacement, but more difficult in N.Z. I suspect the switch is a reversing...

    New bandsaw

with a good blade, and the saw set up properly, the Lumberjack should be able to cut worktop. You need to give the saw time to cut and not feed the wood in too fast. Does the motor stall, or the blade slip? If you are cutting curves, you need the correct width blade for what you are trying to...

Should I cut my arbor to be able to bore deeper?

Does this lathe actually have 'auto ejection' or is it just a quirk of using the longer MT2 taper with tang. According to the user manual, there is a tool supplied for removing tailstock and headstock tooling, so the tailstock should have a hole all the way through, so what knocks the chuck out...

    New bandsaw

Welcome to the forum. In what way is the bandsaw not able to cut the worktop. Could be a case of just getting a really good blade of the correct type for cutting the worktop.

    Fobco drill press clean up

This seems to be split into two threads, the other here It might be better to shut this one down otherwise it will get very confusing 😁

    Fobco drill press clean up

Welcome to the forum. You have inherited a really excellent drill. Fobco is one of the very best manufacturers and if it has had light use, it will outlast you. Don't worry too much about the chuck. You will have just loosened some crap inside it and you will be able to clean it up by repeatedly...

    Meddings Scroll Saw

At the bottom of the sump is a drain plug with taper hole, so a plug was printed on the 3D printer. The next stage was to fix the shaft and pulley. When checked, the shaft was still pretty close to it's original size with some bits hacked out of it. I decided to make a sleeve to fit between...

    Meddings Scroll Saw

I don't normally do any kind of instructions, but there is virtually no information on the Meddings Scroll saw on the internet, so I hope this might be useful for anyone who has to work on the saw. (probable me in 6 months time). I will do it over several postings as I have time, It took a...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I've seen wooden guides, but this was another useful design on the 3D printer. I made a set of guides for sharpening my planer blades. I couldn't be bothered waiting years to print the maximum size on my printer, so I just tried 3off 10mm thick guides. I wasn't sure if they would be rigid...

    Meddings Scroll Saw

I just give things a really good clean and repair what's needed to get it working well, but just getting the years of dust and oil off it made it look better. Years of neglect. The saw does take pinless blades, but I'm not sure how I could fit a blade with pins. There only seems to be a screw...
