advice on MR MDF sheet stock

We buy mediate or kronaspan but prefer the kronaspan as it seems a bit denser and finishes better. We buy in packs of 40 and pay around £18+ vat from Latham’s. Meyer also sell for a good price.

    Tool ****

Anyone else noticed that Axminster bridge city are made in China under licence whereas the bridge city website tools are made in small batches in the USA but don’t cost anymore. Feels like Axminster are selling cheaper made Chinese tools but not letting us know there not actually bridge city.

    Burning plywood on the woodburner

Thanks but still not really giving any reasons. I understand the toxic fumes argument but our wood waste heater in the workshop is suitable and legal for ply offcuts with 6 people working away in there so why not at home? There’s just a lot of people saying no without any reasons, I’ve also...

    Burning plywood on the woodburner

Just wondered if anyone’s got any idea whether it’s ok to burn birch ply on the woodburner? I’ve got loads of off cuts from the last few kitchens and getting low on firewood. I’ve just put some on and it burns a treat but will the glue fumes coat the lining? Anyone else burning ply regularly.

    Classic cars

We've just finished a kitchen for a lady who collects and invests in classic porsche 911's. She said she'd made the switch from property a few years ago as classic cars don't incur any tax on capital gains and she'd noticed the prices rising far faster than property.

Quality Chainsaws - Husqvarna & Stihl the only options?

I've just bought a new saw, went to 2 local retailers of stihl and husqvarna and neither would sell me a stihl!!!! Both places repair and service and say in the last few years stihl quality has really dropped. Bought a husky 550xp, amazing compared to the older models, felled and cut up around...

    Is this good wood?

Looks good to me, you will find that with the 225 wide boards it's often got the pith in the centre with splits and clear each side which should allow you to get a stile each side and an inch or so of waste in the middle. I think you'll find that will make nice doors.

    Accoya

Doug fir is great for windows, durable, stable and works well but it has to be old growth from Canada for clear straight boards, takes paint well but needs to be old fashioned aluminium primer as it's so resinous. we buy ours from Thorogoods.

    Accoya

Here we go, piccy of my price list, expect to pay a bit more though. It's really dry and brittle to work, splinters on scribble and small sections unless your careful. Also, you must use stainless fittings only or they corrode. On the plus side it's stable and rarely moves, you also by it in...

    Accoya

Funnily enough, we've just built a kitchen for an extension and all there windows and doors were accoya. We use it a lot and it is good stuff but not so nice to work as 'real' timber. You can buy it from Lathams, just give the a call and they will give you a meterage price for the sections you...
