    using wieght's on a Hegner multi-cut 3 scroll saw

No, never heard of it. Off the top of my head it may be a fix to cure some resonance at a particular speed. If anyone else has greater insight I'd be glad to hear it.

    Switch connection advice please

That connects both sides of the coil to the same point. The continuity between A1 and 4 (live out) is through the coil - a multimeter will show a resistance there of probably several kilohms. To energise the coil the other end needs to go to neutral out 2.

    Switch connection advice please

Yes, wire A1 back to 2. You want the coil to be energised at the same time as the load, the two should be in parallel since both are designed for the full voltage by themselves.

    Switch connection advice please

Just looked up this switch and concur with guineafowl21's wiring. The additional contact is so you can daisy-chain additional press-to-break emergency stops to the NVR. If you don't have any wire A1 back to 24 as well.

Wanted Fine Woodworking #293 Tools and Shop

    I've just PM'ed you.

    Middle of Lidl

Clamping is personal choice, I know many "experts" claim it's never needed (just rely on the track grips) but my preference is to clamp if the cut is long enough I need to move my weight to complete it. The only downside is you need clearance underneath which precludes initial cutting of sheets...

Home shop set up & budget

Have you thought about fitting out a shipping container? The going rate for single trip 20ft containers seems to be around £2000, exterior shouldn't need any work except keeping it painted. Tired containers can go for £100-200 but be prepared to go round with a welder patching up to make it...

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

That reminds me, do need to go blackberrying, right time of year now. Did cross my mind a week or so ago but it was in the heatwave and figured it could wait a few days. Economically it makes no sense at all of course, the time it takes to pick £1 of blackberries dwarfs that it takes to earn...

    Scroll saw recommendations

It's a bit of an awkward question since different saws follow completely different patterns from an electrical standpoint. The simplest case would be a model with a universal motor fed directly from AC. A rheostat would theoretically work but you'd need a big one, you'd lose torque at low speed...

Most Useful Discovery for Online Woodworkers EVER EVER EVER

To nitpick that isn't an ASCII character - those only go up to 127. What you get in the range 128-255 depends on the character encoding ("code page") in use which varies between systems - what you see may well not match what someone else sees. The numbers starting with 0 are a different system...

It's one of the classic models that people aspire to own. Determining variable speed is tricky with Hegners, if there's a V suffix on the model number you know it is variable speed but it often gets dropped so it's absence doesn't mean it isn't. In short you need to check with the seller but it...

Under stairs storage but with access to meters and fuse box

Whatever you do bear in mind the fuse box is one thing you may foreseeably want to access in the dark. I'd be inclined to leave it as open access as possible, I certainly wouldn't want to be pulling out drawers and fumbling for somewhere to put them with the lights out.

Just noticed this one on ebay. I don't have any experience of Delta myself but I know people do rate them. £155 buy it now with the stand - it's not a give away but I'd say its a good deal. In Nottingham so looks quite handy for the OP too. Only thing I would look into is that switch looks...

Hacks to help cope with the heat

No the problem is our weather is too changeable so we never get chance to keep up. 30° heat should not realistically cause anyone any issues. The problem is we get it for four or five days after much cooler weather. Just as everyone begins to acclimatise to the warmer temperatures it goes cold...

You're in the same boat I found myself a few months back. There is a bit of a gap between the sub £200 machines and better models from £500 up. Obviously I have only seen a sample but the cheaper machines struck me as being much of a muchness whether is a £60-70 machine from Aldi or Lidl or a...

    Quality Metalwork Files

Found those files I mentioned here. Also curious to the logic of the bowdleriser - how does "barsteward" become "turnip"?

    Quality Metalwork Files

Interesting that you recommend smaller files. I'm a recent convert after previously regarding 8-10" as standard but have now gone down to 6" as the go to size. No need for warding files - there isn't really a gap between them and needle files that needs to be filled. Do keep a few 10" flat files...

    Pillar drill

Yep, the whole head moves up and down on the column. A have a mini drill for circuit boards that works the same way - see the pic. For most of its intended use it's fine, PCB drills are all the same length making adjustment unnecessary. Board mounting holes are a different story. In my case that...

    16amp circuit

It'll probably be fine - it depends on the specifics of the installation. Reading between the lines it appears your electrician is installing or replacing a second consumer unit in your garage, makes a lot of sense especially in a detached garage. It may seem an odd question but how is your...

    16amp circuit

You don't need a switch but for a cost of perhaps a fiver I wouldn't see any reason not to have one. Yes, it will need to be RCD protected. But these questions are technically moot. You can't put a 16A socket on a ring, it needs its own radial circuit, at least if you intend to follow the...
