Upholstered Kitchen Corner Seat - ***NOW FINISHED***

Next job is to make up the oak facing panels. These will be 70mm x 20mm frames holding 10mm oak veneered panels. Because the front slopes outwards, none of the corners are at 90 deg, so I copy the shape onto a piece of paper held directly over the MDF base for each panel, like this – Then...

Upholstered Kitchen Corner Seat - ***NOW FINISHED***

Agreed - but the guy wielding the chequebook is always right. Yep - table will be a project for next winter. I'm thinking in terms of an octagonal sunburst veneered top in 2 contrasting woods, on a steam bent and laminated pedestal. Loads of stuff I've never done before - I'm quite...

Upholstered Kitchen Corner Seat - ***NOW FINISHED***

After much prevarication I have finally got started on building an upholstered corner seat for our kitchen, which needs to be suitable for sitting up to the table for meals and also be comfortable for relaxing, drinking coffee (or wine or beer), watching TV etc. I am using this thread by...

    Ten years for a plane!

Sounds like a "seasoned" criminal.

    Journey into space?

Nice collection of "bitsa's" there. I need to add a "little plank" flying wing to the collection mentioned above. Are you not afraid that the uncovered habiich wing will warp leaned up in a cupbaord?

    Journey into space?

That's really nice John. Still got a Soarcerer, a Monterey and a Phase 6 on top of my wardrobe. Radio gear is 30 years old and kaput after a meeting with terra firma after the batteries ran out prematurely and the elevator cycled to fully down and stayed there, but I guess simple modern 4...

Soft Close Hinges for Inset Doors??

I used Hettich Sensys softclose hinges throughout for kitchen doors inset into faceframes. They also provide a range of base plates that will position the hinge accurately depending on the amount by which the faceframe overhangs the cabinet sides, which is the main problem. All the info you need...

Scheppach Planer & thicknesser hms 2600ci

I think you'll find that the outfeed table flips up, but you need to lower the thicknesser table to below about 150mm to enable the extractor chute to be rotated in to position.

Scheppach Planer & thicknesser hms 2600ci

I bought one of these for £400 a couple of years back, Good solid machine, and as has already been said, easy enough to change over from planer to thicknesser, but you do lose the thickness setting. Excellent finish but the fence is a bit flimsy. You do need to check that the 90 deg setting...

    Moving at last

No you're not. You're just moving funds around the balance sheet from one asset class to another - and arguably one that is a better long term investment than cash. Their inheritance is intact. :D

    Moving at last

Strewth! That happened quickly. When we moved down to Devon in 1989 it took nearly a year to find what we wanted. Fingers crossed that it all goes well for you.

Plastic mirror mounts - a warning!

For info, the plastic clips are made in Germany by Klick-Klack and are still widely available. I have taken down the remaining 2 mirrors that I put up at the same time using the same clips, and the ones supporting the second 4ft x 3ft mirror are deformed and clearly on the way to failing...

Plastic mirror mounts - a warning!

Picture the scene. New Year's Eve, and getting ready for guests to arrive. I had just stepped out of the shower, and was half dry when the phone went. Cursing profusely I left the shower room to answer it, and less that 10 seconds later there was a thunderous crashing sound, which just seemed to...

    WHALE

We went whale watching in the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound one year in May and saw loads of orcas. Vancouver is a 10 hour flight from Heathrow. I believe one of the best places to view whales is from the southern tip of Baja California, but that is a serious distance. Good winter...

    Half Glazed Iroko Door

I've never had any trouble with 2mm double sided glazing tape. I set the edge of the tape just below the edge of the timber bead and then run a bead of either low modulus clear silicon, or clear CT1, along the top of the bead to form a perfect seal with the glass. I stand the sealed unit on 5mm...

    LED security floodlights

We have a 30watt LED security floodlight and it's pretty bright. A 500w halogen was too bright for us, but as a guess the 30watt LED is similar to a 300w halogen. If you want a 500w equivalent, something like this at 5500 lumens would be pretty bright. I never cease to be amazed at how bright...

    Vacuum bag veneering question

I used the tape sold by the East Coast FG supplies. It's a bit like chewing gum and is as sticky as really sticky stuff. They are worth phoning - I found them to be really helpful and no hard sell.

    Vacuum bag veneering question

The East Coast Fibreglass Supplies package strikes me as good value, and nice people to deal with as well. I was starting from scratch so bought their vacuum pump as well which is a 2 stage jobbie which accounted for £217 of the overall cost of £275 for the complete package. You may be able to...
