    Rules on the penny

I remember Ronnie Barker doing a spoof news item at the time of decimalisation. The fore runner of Antiques Roadshow was a programme hosted by Arthur Negus called "Going for a Song", and Ronnie Barker announced that the whole country was getting into the swing of things with the new decimal...

    Pocket hole screws

+1. I've had some 10" planer blades from them and they were great, and well priced. Didn't realise that they also did Kreg stuff.

    Pocket hole screws

The problem with conventional countersunk screws is that you would be screwing them down into a flat bottomed recess so that the countersunk head will have a tendency to split the timber, particularly on end grain, which is often the case with pocket hole applications. That's why the custom...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Now that's what I call a nice gate. What's the finish please?

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Reminds me of the explanation as to why Noah didn't do any fishing. He only had 2 worms! #-o

    What to do with photos

I plug a Chromecast into the back of my TV and just stream photos from my tablet or laptop. Works a treat.

    Expanding table

Thanks for the original post Dave. I love it, but as the table expands from a diameter of 52 ins to 63 ins, that only increases the circumference by 21%, although the area increases by 47%, I sometimes wonder whether the effort is worth it. There is a simpler, although mechanically less...

Small oak bookcase by hand tools

Nice one Tony, and no room for error with that many dovetails.

Upholstered Kitchen Corner Seat - ***NOW FINISHED***

Now for the upholstery. This is something I’ve never done before so this WILL NOT be a definitive guide on how to upholster. It’s just a woodworkers approach, having read around the subject a bit, and having trawled YouTube for anything relevant. Copy my methods at your peril, and if there are...

    Any shed builders in?

This one is 12' x 8' cost me £1,300 to build. It would have been £300 less with a felted roof rather than cedar shingles, but SWMBO can see it from the kitchen window and didn't want an eyesore! A similar size from one of the DIY sheds may have been less, but nowhere near as robust.

Upholstered Kitchen Corner Seat - ***NOW FINISHED***

After a bit of head scratching about the best way to do the backs, I decided that the corner area was the place to start, and would require a shelf behind the seat to infill the triangular space that was created. Also we want to have a pop up power point in that corner so that needs to be...

Adding lights to a display case

I used these in a kitchen cabinet as well as under a bridging unit over a sink and have been very happy with them. You also need a transformer for each group of lights fitted. I fed 3 lights from one transformer, but i believe that they can take more.

Concealed Hinges for inset face frame doors with an offset

I used Hettich Sensys softclose hinges throughout for kitchen doors inset into faceframes. They also provide a range of base plates that will position the hinge accurately depending on the amount by which the faceframe overhangs the cabinet sides, which is the main problem. All the info you need...

    vacuum bag press/equipment

Not sure I understand the spec. There is no data on the cubic feet/min or litres/min pumping capacity, and the vacuum of 600mm Hg equates to about 800 millibars, or 0.8 atmospheres which would be completely inadequate. The East Coast one gets down to 0.005 atmospheres which is as near a vacuum...

    vacuum bag press/equipment

Miles - Welcome to the forum. I faced the same dilemma as you when I was looking for a vacuum system. I bought the East Coast Fibreglass supplies kit for a bookcase project, but the full rationale behind my purchase is contained in this extract. In practise, I have found that the tube...
