    How would you duplicate this?

Steve - the original full size photo may help. If possible I'd like to keep the grain in the same direction and as it will be in English Oak I'm not sure where I'd get the dowel from anyway. There has to be a simple answer - it's just a case of thinking of it, unless of course it is yet...

    How would you duplicate this?

Paul - the round bits are all part of the original piece of wood. Steve - you mean maybe in a drill press? I have a basic press, but it's very feeble. My guess is that teh width of the overall mopulding is about 15mm - 20 mm. Difficult to tell precisely through the window of a closed shop!

    How would you duplicate this?

This is some fine detail off the side of a cabinet I spotted in a shop window in Pimlico. I want to incorporate it in an oak bookcase, set in to the surface so that both sides are flush like the right hand side of the feature. How would you set about it? My best guess is to create the 1/2...

How old is your brain ?

My brain is obviously addled. My scores went 51, 36,35, 33 - really 55. This is the sort of test where you can get your eye in pretty quick.

    Train Ticket Prices !!!!!!

This was my son's experience just recently http://funkinl.blogspot.com/2008/06/rus ... irgin.html My wife also had to travel from Preston back to Plymouth by public transport. As she was unable to book in advance (family crisis), a single on the train was £104 for a journey of 300 miles...

    Will it never end ????

Nice one Lee. And I suspect very satisfying to build!

    Wanna see some thing cool?

At $1,295, and given that US imports normally come in at the same number of £s as USD, this makes the WoodRat look cheap!

    ipod sound dock

Yep - a cable with a headphone jack on one end and twin phono plugs on the other end connected to the auxiliary sockets on the back of our hi-fi did the trick for me.

Norm's New Yankee Workshop Router table - improvements?

Many thanks to all who offered their advice, and especially Bob "9fingers" for his very helpful pdf's. Been busy cutting up sheets of 18mm ply and got so carried away with my new sheet cutting guide that I cut my workmate in half! No WIP piccies as I get the impression that router...

    Starting out.

I wouldn't disagree with any of the advice already given. You'll need to recognise the difference early on between buying a tool because you need it and buying it because you want it! DAMHIKT. A band saw will be nice, but I still don't have one. I only got my first table saw and router when I...

Norm's New Yankee Workshop Router table - improvements?

Thanks Tony. I see you have the 24" Incra fence. Does that refer to the length of the bar onto which the fence is fixed? I intend to buy the 17" Wonder fence - so would that mean that I have to allow a minimum of 17" between the face of the fence when fully extended and the back of the...

Norm's New Yankee Workshop Router table - improvements?

Yep - already bought 4 x braked castors. Your RT thread has already provided me with much inspiration thanks. Main concern is to ensure that I incorporate any material improvements to the fence (maybe saving the cost of adding the Incra) and of dust collection. No point reinventing the...

Norm's New Yankee Workshop Router table - improvements?

Thanks guys for all your comments. Having looked up the Router table on the NYW site, I was directed to the Brimarc site, the UK distributer, where stupidly I looked under "R" for Router Table, rather than under "D" for Deluxe Router table! Silly me - Duh!!! Thanks Bob - pm sent

Norm's New Yankee Workshop Router table - improvements?

The NYW website enthuses about the improvements made to the Mk1 version of Norm's router table - especially to the storage, electrics and dust extraction system - so I bought a set of plans. Disappointingly, after perusing them, it is clear that the modifications are not included on the...

    car - fuel - gallons - litre

Snap! And that is exactly what I did yesterday. Actually it was a S/H Octavia II 2.0 Tdi Elegance Hatchback with leather seats. 22,000 miles on an '05 plate for a little over £9k. Same engine and 6 speed box as my company VW Golf 2.0 Tdi which happily returns 53 mpg all day with the cruise...

    Aliens?

I think they call them canards because "they can'ardly fly"! :) One advantage is that the canards have positive lift, which supplements that provided by the wings, whereas a conventional rear tailplane has negative lift ( i.e. a down force) which negates some of the lift provided by the...

    Adirondack Chair (WIP)

Looking very nice WiZer - I like this design and can see no reason why this should be any less comfortable than with vertical slats up the back. I find the most comfortable garden furniture has a slight "S" shape to the back to provide support for the small of the back, and this design with a...
