    laws and bylaws needed

Richard - I think you may have answered your own question? How about first thing in the morning before the bathers arrive? Or last thing in the evening as the sun goes down? Or the quiet end of the beach? Or on a cold day? If this is the location you want for your father I am sure you'll...

    laws and bylaws needed

I go along with what the others have said. Only ask the question if you are prepared to accept the answer you are given. If you have already decided, then don't ask. FWIW we recently investigated interring my mother-in-law's ashes in the local churchyard with a small plaque flush with the...

E Petition to stop the air ambulance paying VAT on fuel

Guys - thank you, and I'm humbled by your support, even more so as mods on another woodwork forum deleted an identical post within minutes on the basis that it was too political

E Petition to stop the air ambulance paying VAT on fuel

The Air ambulance is a service close to my heart, with a good friend having had his life saved on Dartmoor, and with one turning up to attend my father in a remote part of Devon within minutes of having been called. They are funded completely by charitable donations and helicopters drink fuel...

    Front door set

That's very clever. A sort of "Trompe d'oeil" from wood! Not sure I'd want one but love to see something clever and different.

    Workshop Chaos.. Desperation setting in!

Available here, and from all good bookshops, and a few rubbish ones as well. :occasion5:

    Busy shop

... and so you should be a happy bunny. I never cease to be amazed at your work rate. So far as those torsion box shelves are concerned, are they oak faced ply with an AWO lip front and back? And are they done that way instead of solid oak to reduce weight, strength or cost - or all 3!

    Workshop Chaos.. Desperation setting in!

... and if a measuring error means it turns out 12' x 8' ( 60% more floor space than 10'x6' ) then who's to know until it's too late. Makes best use of sheet materials too!

    Workshop Chaos.. Desperation setting in!

Bad luck John. FWIW, I had a lot of resistance from SWMBO to my shed build as well. To begin with she was adamant that she really didn't want to be able to see it from the kitchen window, but now we have one she wouldn't be without it. Since it was built SWMBO has planted some tubs...

    Workshop Chaos.. Desperation setting in!

I had the same trouble, but was able to build this without any objection from SWMBO

    Washboarding?

That looks really good Rob. So that was the 20mm M42 cranked up to max tension? As a matter of interest which fastcut blade do you use, and how much tension do you apply to that? Haven't had to. She's just joined a gym as it's somewhere to go whilst i'm building doors/windows/kitchen and...

    Washboarding?

Do we allow wimps on this forum? Just got in from spending the day in the garage machining 40 pieces of iroko to size for windows! Thermometer says -2 deg. Come on Rob - get a grip!

    Washboarding?

Rob - I've got a 20mm M42 on order from Tuffsaws so would be interested to know what result you're getting and how you went about tensioning the blade.

water mark on waxed table top - HELP PLEASE

Thanks for all your suggestions. Not sure I'm brave enough to set fire to it with meths at the moment - primarily because I don't have time to strip it back if it doesn't work. It's an intriguing idea tho' so may just polish up a bit of scrap and deliberately watermark it and try it. In the...

    Window Frames

Welcome to the forum Oli. Lot's of words of wisdom above. FWIW, I think your prices are unrealistically low as well. Are you to provide an unfinished product for the client to paint, or a fully finished window? Although these are small windows, handles, locks, hinges etc are the same...

water mark on waxed table top - HELP PLEASE

About 25 years ago I made a pair of side tables from a piece of mahogany that was liberated from a building society branch that was being refitted and they've been in daily use. We always use coasters for drinks, but last night SWMBO grabbed a bar of chocolate, put it down on a damp worktop and...

    RBS CEO Bonus

As I understand it, Wayne Rooney gets paid £250,00 per week, and Eric Clapton is still pulling in nearly £20m a year. Are we really saying that the guy tasked with turning a profit for the tax payer on a near insolvent bank in which we have a £45 billion stake, and which employs 180,000 people...

Windows - a first attempt - WIP pics

Thanks for your kind comments flanajb. The main reason I laminate is for ease of forming the corner joints in what is quite a complex section. Like many hobbyists I have a table-saw, router table, p/t and bandsaw but not a spindle molder. Even if I had a spindle it is debatable whether it...

    Welfare reform bill.

As a health visitor my wife had to deal with these people on a daily basis. These are true anecdotes! On one occasion the father announced that he was going out to get a job. The mother told him that if he got a job, don't bother coming back! She wanted him at home helping with the children...
