    Bifold Doors Project

Yep. I remember it well. I found that for surface planing it helped to re-wax the tables and the fence frequently and to have the rollers set very marginally higher than the table (no more than 1mm) so that the board would just touch the table when it sagged under its own weight, or with a...

    Bifold Doors Project

+1 re the steel box on the oak. I'm looking forward to watching the progress on this one as well. Planing long lengths of timber on a small p/t - I remember it well! (hammer) :D 10 cu ft of oak on the roofrack? Blimey - that must be somewhere in the 150 - 200 kgs range.

    Dw1150

From a photo this looks similar to the SIP p/t. These have a micro switch where the dust shute fits when it's used in surface planer mode which occasionally get clogged with wood chips in the rubber bellows that covers the switch mechanism, and this makes the contact intermittent. On the SIP...

    slide scanner

It doesn't always follow though does it. Just because the negative is the original, and therefore will show better definition, contrast etc than a copy/print, it doesn't always mean that a scanner will be able to deliver that higher quality. I had a cheap scanner about 12 years ago and it...

    Festool extraction alternatives

I use a Nilfisk Alto Attix 30-21pc with my T55 and Domino and the standard hose fits fine. Whatever you get, auto switching is a must. Means you'll never try and use the tool without extraction, and the Domino in particular just won't work without.

    slide scanner

I've got an Epson Perfection V500 and it's "the mutt's". Not only is it a great flat bed scanner, it copies 4 slides simultaneously or 2 strips of film, inc negatives - both 35mm and full frame. Resolution is fantastic - up to 6400 dpi. I scanned most of my slide archive at around 1200...

External Bi-Fold doors - some advice please!

Hi (Mod Edit:---) and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the advice but I actually solved my problem so far as bifold door configuration is concerned some time ago and I wrote it up as a work in progress (WIP) here.

    Neil Armstrong

So another of my boyhood heroes sadly departs. I was aged 16 at the time of the first moon landing and camping in Brittany. I couldn't believe that my father would arrange our first family holiday abroad to clash with such a momentous occasion - I was a complete space nut, and still am...

    Makita?

The vendor doesn't actually claim that it's a Makita - just that it's a router. Could be anything.

Lubricate rope to fit it through a tight hole?

Looks like a fun piece of kit. If you tension the ropes, what's to stop the tension pulling the two towers together, or for them simply to rack? Can't help feeling that a diagonal brace might not come amiss to prevent racking. If you want that rope walk-way to be really tight those towers...

You guys don't seem that excited...

Well - you were right. After about 40 mins my comment to SWMBO was that I was completely underwhelmed. George Michaels "dirge" - what was that all about? I can forgive Ray Davies - Waterloo Sunset is an iconic piece of music about London - although I prefer Cathy Dennis's cover...

    T9 Boeshield ?

I ordered one last night. Seemed like good value with an additional 12% off the price quoted. I googled around and it seems to be good stuff to protect CI goods.

The Irish sailing commentary is worth a view. It's already been pulled from YouTube so watch it whilst you can. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=510_1344196881

You guys don't seem that excited...

It could have been worse. I expected Cliff to come out and do a croaky performance of "Summer Holiday". Let's hope he's not being held over for the closing ceremony. Someone like Adele would have been far more appropriate - but I guess that as she's within a couple of weeks of dropping her...

Why do British soldiers wear red coats?

...and the RAF wear blue for the same reason! Actually, I think the real reason - boring as it is - is that red dye was cheaper than any other a couple of hundred years ago.
