Quick cheap DIY dust collection system VIDEO

That looks like an ingenious low tech arrangement Graham. Tempted to try that. Thanks for posting.

    "Woody stuff" in Indochina

I spent 30 days in Jan/Feb travelling around Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Stunningly beautiful countries, and quite thought provoking as well. Anyway, took a few "woody" photos! Beating an edge onto a blade in a Lao village using a Vietnam War era unexploded shell as an anvil. Hopefully the...

    advice on thicknesser / planer

Thanks for that Carl. Link here. the video lasts about 20 mins so it's worth sitting thru the advertising that runs before the video.

    advice on thicknesser / planer

Not made this one. The main drawback so far as I can see is that you are still limited to the width of your thicknesser, which in many cases is the same or not much wider than a planer/jointer. FWW did an article a little while back on a jig that uses a router running on bearers with a...

    Interesting sales pitch

I'm getting fed up with the constant "this is about your windows security" phone calls. Yesterday the call went like this. Him. "Hello Mr M.., I am calling about your windows security" Me. "You're wasting your time. I've already got double glazing AND a conservatory". Him "Oh for f***'s...

    advice on thicknesser / planer

Ingenious! I can see that working well for large boards, for table tops for example, but for everyday surfacing and squaring pieces of timber there is nothing to beat a combined planer/thicknesser imho. That does of course assume that there is neither the budget nor the space for separates.

    advice on thicknesser / planer

At around the £500 mark i would go for a decent second hand machine. Something like a Scheppach 2600ci. They are pretty robust and there are some good buys around. There is this one for instance. Or maybe something from the SIP range which you can pick up for around £300 on your favourite...

Advice requested for a 'pull-out' kitchen food cupoard.

John - if space in your kitchen is limited then I think you may find 2 or 3 mini pull-out larder units wasteful of space as not only do you have to leave space vertically between the stacking layers in each unit, but also horizontally between units. I'm doing a kitchen build at the moment...

    Bob Servant Independent

Thanks for that one Flanajb. Just finished watching the first one and will definitely catch the rest. Hilarious. The same character was responsible for this hilarious send up of spam emails.

Even **** Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!!

.... and when enough people are doing it the govt will slap a "petrol equivalent" duty on it. You can't win.

Even **** Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!!

Yep - it's called the "laffer curve". The easiest way to explain it is that if fuel duty was zero, you would sell huge amounts of fuel but you'd collect no tax. At the other end of the graph, if fuel duty was £5mill a litre you'd sell no fuel and still collect no tax. If fuel duty was 1p...

    MR MDF Suppliers in Devon???

Bummer! Seems like they closed at Xmas. They gave good service too. Yet another one bites the dust. Bond Timber or Gillsons perhaps?

    MR MDF Suppliers in Devon???

I get mine from Timbmet in Saltash - not sure what sizes they keep in stock, but never had any difficulty in getting what I want.

    window section advice please

I've now had a look at what I installed. These were Excalibur Dual Claw Locking Shootbolt. I don't know where you would buy them in Normandy, but I got mine mail order from Westward Building Supplies where it appears on p48 of their catalogue, issue 3, under Excalibur Shootbolt System. No doubt...

    window section advice please

I used some provided by Westward Building services of Saltash. Sorry I can't be any more precise as I'm still swanning around SE Asia. However if you give them a ring and get their catalogue the espags I used specifically state that there is a choice of 22 or 25 mm insets. If you haven't...

    window section advice please

Austin. - hadn't noticed your address in Normandy. At least you don't have building control to send a jobs worth to worry you. I dimensioned my own timber from sawn 25mm and 37mm on my p/t. Sorry. - have no thoughts about top hung storm hinges. Beyond my experience I'm afraid. I used...

    window section advice please

Austin. - just picked this up on my tablet whilst travelling through Laos on my way to Vietnam and Cambodia, so a bit difficult to offer a lot of help. My project was for 2 sets of bifold doors, 3 single windows, plus a double and triple. I wrote up how I made the singles on this forum, and...

    Towel Storage for the Mrs

No shame in stuck on glazing bars. That, exactly what I would have done. I think it would either too heavy, or be insufficiently robust with separate bars and panes.

    Happy Bloody 2013

With the kids home for Xmas our washing machine wouldn't empty or spin on Xmas Eve. After draining the water out and dismantling I found a hairgrip jamming the pump which in turn stopped the water level float allowing the spin cycle to kick in. Removed the hairgrip and hey presto. Those who...

    Towel Storage for the Mrs

Nice job Russ. Are the glass panes all in one piece for each door, or is each pane separate?
