Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

In this part of the world we normally call them scribing saws.I know a few people that have had a bit of a fright from them and one who did a bit worse...

    I can see the floor!!

I've seen bits of the floor recently, does that count?I need to dig down to all of the bench top because somewhere on there I have a scale rule and flat scraper that I haven't seen for a while.

As far as kickback risk goes, that is the logical assumption. On the other hand the direction of travel of the teeth as they exit the work will have a tendency to increase the amount of splintering on the bottom surface. It isn't such a problem if your machine has a scribing saw but few hobbyists...

We should thank BarbaraT for the update and I sincerely hope that the thread will be read by novices before they discover the same pitfalls. The graphic images may help with that.I hope the new painkillers do the job.

    Your most useful clamps

I picked up one of those a few weeks ago to see how good it actually was.The short answer is excellent and they represent tremendous value.Very, very similar to the same pattern Bessey.I perhaps don't need more but I have a feeling I will find myself owning a few of them.

    Bevels on a shooting board

I wouldn't entirely write off shooting boards, but they do see very little use from professionals in my experience.I haven't seen one used since the early 1990's and that was the only example since about 1977.They do seem to attract the sort of woodworker who wears a very "technical" apron and...

I wouldn't!! Take a look near the bottom of page 1 of this: https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis16.pdf . While I was looking around the HSE site I found this page that covers most other types of machinery: Safety topics – Working with machinery .For Michael Conifer's edification there is no mention...

How do I get into cnc

You could,if you were a dyed in the wool masochist, learn to type Gcode commands in a text file for the tool to follow. It is tedious beyond belief and can easily go wrong with a slip of the finger. It is a great deal easier to work from a CAD file and if you really want to get into carving...

    Another "What species?"

Chestnut does have very fine rays and while oak is more likely,I still wouldn't rule it out altogether. The smell test would soon make it clear.

How do I do this? Help!

This prompted me to do a little exercise to extend my capabilities in Freecad.I created a typical door section and then guesstimated the top angle, following which I took a point where I guessed the hinge pivot axis would be and created a cone that followed the angle of the door.I used the cone...

    Another "What species?"

No medullary rays visible and if it doesn't have any,I wouldn't rule out chestnut.

Those ancient gadgets have reinforced my dislike of push blocks quite a bit.A simple one piece push stick, devoid of additional bits and pieces is also devoid of failure points. In addition, should you slip in any way,it won't be spitting tacks or screws in your direction.

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I don't have much enthusiasm for push blocks or those dogleg push sticks.I simply prefer a normal push stick of 12 -15 inches long as it keeps my fingers further from the danger zone.

How do I do this? Help!

In simple terms you have two options;remove the portion of door that is between the apex and the point where the door fouls the frame and live with a visible facet when the door is open.Alternatively, square the top of the door to the point where the door fouls the rebate-plus a little...

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

According to my eyes the thread is about software in general and not the abstruse capabilities of one proprietary photographic program. As such I expressed the opinion that it could be worth exploring that world.Your rather rude post is of little help to those who might be seeking alternatives...

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

No idea,I've never looked.Probably not,but I suspect even a browser would have some capabilities in this respect.A search function will locate keywords if somebody has taken the trouble to put them there.

While it wasn't a factor in this instance,I do wonder if we ought to periodically remind people that learning from American youtube videos can be dangerous as they do have a huge reluctance to use crown guards. We have had them mandated for industrial use for a long time and for good reason.If...

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

It might be time for some of you to explore FOSS software. As an example, what do the photography buffs need to do that GIMP won't do? GIMP It might mean looking for a menu in a different place.
