    ELU Router Questions

Since I have cannibalised an Elu for parts to fix a DeWalt,I would think the reverse might be possible.I agree with the praise for the quality of the Elu products, turning them yellow didn't upgrade the quality at all.

    Sanding Discs

I converted my disc sander to velcro a couple of years ago.The parts were all on ebay and weren't too expensive.I used to detest the time wasted cleaning glue residue off the metal disc and now I don't have to do it.

How do I accurately transfer CAD drawing to sheet of wood?

If you own a good rule and straight edge you can dispense with the square.I know the idea gives lots of straight line and square corner woodworkers a dose of the vapours.By using the aligned dimension feature of a CAD system you can determine the distance from the ends of your baseline to any...

How do I accurately transfer CAD drawing to sheet of wood?

I am mystified by the amount of comment this topic has generated. In the OP I see only straight lines and with the use of a basic CAD program it should be possible to determine the distance from any relevant feature to any other feature and strike arcs to accurately locate the points at the end...

    Homebase

I have never found Homebase to be the best place for bargains, although I did buy a drill there when it was a clearance offer a few months ago.I would however prefer to shop at Homebase than suffer the B&Q experience. They were once market leaders and now they have a very poor website, stores with...

Router table v spindle moulder v overhead router

I would rather use a spindle or an overhead router than a router table any day of the week.If further pushed,I would plump for the overhead router as it can cope with mouldings by using ordinary router cutters as well as having the template following capability.

    Help! Shed's gone mouldy....

Can you identify the type of ply on the bench top?If its birch it would be entirely in keeping for it to grow mould spots in short order. My shed isn't particularly well ventilated and I have no trouble with mould on timber,I do have rust occurring on steel in very short order though as I live...

    Alternative wood please?

If we are referring to what the Americans call tulip poplar, the price seems steep. What particular attributes are you seeking?Would aspen or sycamore be suitable and might there be a nearer stockist?

KIt Car Dashboard - Burr Walnut Veneer Project

The OP admits to having never done anything like this before,is this related to dashboards in general or veneering itself? If its veneering,I would strongly urge a bit of practice before attacking a highly visible part of your pride and joy.I would also caution that burr walnut is not the easiest...

    Scrap Diesel cars

Call me cynical if you like. The only thing the dealers are interested in is getting customers signed up to personal lease schemes. The manufacturers will build cars that meet the standards called for.The enthusiasm for electric vehicles overlooks the need for a lot of extra generating capacity...

    Sanding discs

I suppose the best answer is that it depends on what you are doing. If you need to true up mitre joints in 3X3 posts it will take an eternity with 120 grit and conversely if you make five inch square jewellery boxes, you definitely don't want 40 grit.I second the recommendation for velcro backed...

    Sash Clamps

If my plans were to involve using them every day I would seek out Record T-bar cramps on ebay.I own a few of the plain Record sash cramps, but when I needed some six footers for a one off job,I went to Machine Mart and bought the well known own brand.I had to spend a bit of time de-greasing and...

Can you help identify this planer?

The best planer I ever rebated with was a Sedgwick. It came with a Shaw guard that made the operation simple and safe.

Building a workbench out of softwood?

The two prime requirements in my mind are enough weight,so you don't have to chase the bench round the workshop and a top that is free from dips or humps.I have used benches with mdf tops on tubular steel frames, all softwood benches and one or two that hard hardwood tops.None of the variations...

    Workshop Must Have's...

A bench,a vice,a hoover,a place to store tools and a means of sharpening them. Some craps will come in handy too.

Applying wood veneer to steel sheet

I have veneered four inch aluminium tube using contact glue and a veneer hammer to persuade the veneer to stick.I can't see why it wouldn't work on sheet.

    Saw sharpening and setting.

This thread resonates with me.I have a couple of Eclipse saw sets and the numbers bear no relationship to an appropriate amount of set.I have had the experience of snapping some teeth on a very second hand tenon saw and it seemed to be the case that the saw had so totally lost any trace of set...

    Frost Dove st Norwich, anyone?

I remember their shop quite well and even bought a couple of boxwood chisel handles in their closing down sale.I have a couple of their firmer chisels too. They sold quality tools and had a rep who travelled to the major woodworking companies taking orders from the tradesmen and arranging for...

    Screw Shopping

I may be a dinosaur but I really prefer a traditional woodscrew, plain shank and slotted head. The old Nettlefolds allowed you to drill the proper clearance hole and when the wood was handled, the screws stayed in place.I have put in 4,000 in a day with a Yankee screwdriver but prefer not to get...

Linear join on an oak worktop?

If you haven't bought the worktop yet it has to be a better idea to buy the cheaper 3m length from the link given above. If you were in the position of already having the shorter worktops and having to make a join, the butt join with connectors (with or without biscuits) wouldn't be my choice.I...
