    Electric vehicles

At least up till the pandemic it was normal for any car to lose 65% of it's value over three years.Which may have been one of the drivers that led to the overwhelming popularity of PCP plans, which worked out less expensive and gave the finance providers a nice reliable income stream. The spike in...

    B**** computer printers RANT

After disappointment with both the paper feed on my HP and the clogging of the nozzles I now have a Brother laser and it is very fast and spits out the printed sheet very well.Only B&W but that covers 98% of my needs. The novelty wore off wasting most of my very expensive ink printing test pages...

Curved Ply Part For Campervan, Help!

The springback will be considerable with only two layers.Back in the 80's I made a section a bit like a question mark from 4 layers of 1.5mm birch ply and it held it's shape quite well.

    Veneering curves

You can veneer successfully with contact adhesive and since it is often pressure sensitive,a veneer hammer will be useful and doesn't need your entire body weight applied as the line of contact is so small.Just be very aware that contact adhesive doesn't like frost and you need to be absolutely...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

The orange part above the blade on this example.

    B**** computer printers RANT

I sympathise. The whole printer business is a racket, from the withdrawn drivers to the price of ink.

Curved Ply Part For Campervan, Help!

It might be a bit hopeful to expect just any ply not to delaminate when subjected to steam.Flexiply may take the curve if applied in a few laminations but I haven't been too impressed by the surface quality when a clear finish is applied, but I suppose a veneer could be added.

    Commercial Steam Benders?

If you are located south and west of London, try the companies that restore traditional boats along the Thames.they will be used to steam bending for repair work.

Curved Ply Part For Campervan, Help!

There are several approaches that would work.If the sides are straight and parallel,it would allow you to use a constant section.Since you don't have vacuum equipment you can't get away with making one half of a former and laminating from three skins of 3mm plywood. You may be able to make a...

    New Large Slab Levelling/Milling Table

It looks like an epic amount of work (and mess to clear up) but you will have the satisfaction of achieving the outcome you seek.I won't mention a No5 either as it would create another large pile of shavings and some bulging biceps too.I will mention that a man with a large CNC router could skim...

My dust extractor no longer works as it used to.

A couple of suggestions;first of all look very carefully all the way along your flexible hose as long periods of use will tend to wear small holes in the minor diameter corrugations and the inertia of the particles will also hit the outside of any curves quite hard with the attendant wear.The...

    It never happens in Europe!

I can remember going fishing a day or two after the start of the coarse fishing season around that time and experiencing a light snow shower. That may have been the year that the BBC news featured young ladies in bikinis sunbathing in a London park during a January heatwave.Global warming eh? As...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I will repeat my former point that if you have a crown guard in place, and a few American woodworkers actually do use them, the risk of the wood binding on the saw and achieving lift off is greatly reduced. With no crown guard, the block or dogleg push stick exerts an amount of downward force to...

    Canabis farms

A few years ago I was working on the adjacent road of an industrial estate in the sort of circumstances that were described in the first post. The police went in and found a huge amount of wooden construction had taken place and thousands of plants were flourishing. They did get a couple of the...

    Engraving Brass

I am fumbling my way forward with brass engraving and a long way from being competent.I use my home built CNC router which doesn't have infinitely variable spindle speed.I've been using the basic, and thankfully cheap, 30 degree engraving cutters and reckon to be doing well if I only use 3 per...

    I'm in the wrong job

I wouldn't be too disparaging about aerial installation as it can cover quite a lot of things. It really isn't too difficult to attach an aerial to a wall or chimney and point it in the general direction of a signal. It gets a bit more complicated if one has to distribute the signal around a hotel...

    3018 vs 3020

It could be a valuable way to learn the fundamentals of CNC work as it will require the same processes to be understood as any other machine. It won't be producing large piles of parts or removing a great deal of material in a hurry. It doesn't have the power or rigidity for that sort of...

    3018 vs 3020

Its usually an abbreviation of the work area,30 X 18 cm or 30 X 20 cm.Normally assembled from extrusions of slender size and held together by plastic brackets and supplied with about as much power as an electric toothbrush. Not a terrible way to learn the basics, but not a great way to produce a...

    Rip off Britain?

I've often thought that it ought to be a mandated feature of car advertising that as well as fuel consumption and VED bracket, they ought to be compelled to state what it would cost to buy the complete car in bits at the parts counter. It first occurred to me when I heard a mechanic relate that...

    Breaking News: Post Office Scandal

Don't you think a thorough enquiry is in order?Otherwise we may observe all all of the blame landing with just one of the chain of CEOs and that may not be entirely reasonable.
