    Small CNC Router Build

A 2mm thread pitch with 200 steps/rotation would give fantastic resolution and the gearing would have to be fairly severe to degrade it.

    Home made vacuum bags

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, this is what my vac fittings look like. The quick release connector is on the other side. The threaded variety work quite well but after a few hundred jobs the threads in a softish alloy don't bite too well and my bayonet fittings just keep on working.

    Small CNC Router Build

That would be a very useful stage completed.Does the change to the Z axis now mean that the resolution has improved by a factor of 4 too?My steppers have 200 steps per rotation and with a 5mm pitch on the ballscrews, that gives a resolution of 1 step=1/40th of a mm which ought to be more than...

    Home made vacuum bags

Those connectors are very similar to mine, the difference being that mine have a bayonet fitting where the easycomposites units use a 1/4" bsp thread. I'm a little puzzled by people using various welding and bonding techniques to tailor their bags.Mastic tape is a lot easier.Maybe its...

    Small CNC Router Build

Since my machine was intended as a learning exercise in CNC building and I had no plans to produce chronometer parts or space shuttles,I kept it basic.I happened to have a Rotozip that I bought when B&Q had them on clearance at less than £40 and as far as I recall it is a 550W motor.I wouldn't...

    Small CNC Router Build

Congratulations on reaching a landmark stage, its rather special to see the machine moving isn't it?Calibrating and setting home/limit switches is perhaps a bit less epic, but no less satisfying-its also something I have yet to do with my machine although with ballscrews the calibration was easy...

    Home made vacuum bags

I use damp proof membrane. The next part of the jigsaw will be when you select a hose and the fitting to attach the bag to it.I use quick release hose fittings, but you may get away with using reinforced hose generously wrapped with mastic tape.

    Small CNC Router Build

I know nothing of this particular machine's software, what is it?I pondered both Arduino based solutions and LinuxCNC for mine before selecting the LinuxCNC solution.Cost didn't come into it as they were both free.

    1000mm rule

I have one by Hilka which fits the description. Not only is it straight,it is also quite accurate as I compared it with my 2 metre Rabone standard rule.Previously I had a cheapy that I picked up at a market and it was only when I got it home that I unpacked it and found both edges were badly burred.

    Jig saw flashed out

I would definitely take ten minutes or so to have a look inside before binning it.If you are lucky it might just be an accumulation of damp dust in there.Have you looked at the fuse?I fear that if the saw has a soft start there may not be much hope as they tend to use something a bit more...

    Every little helps,

I've never-yet- bought chocolates in the Range.I do rate their own brand paint brushes very highly though.

    Overhead Router

On those I used setting the cutter height was easy as there was a screw adjustment for the motor with a locking screw. On the Wadkin you could also raise and lower the table. One other thing that hasn't been mentioned is that by varying the size of the guide pin and cutter you can cut rebates.One...

    Overhead Router

Wonderful machines.I have used a couple of Wadkins and a small Zimmermann. The Zimmermann also had a head that could tilt in two directions and could be fed down at a compound angle by a lead screw.I don't know anything about the SCM machines but if you find they come complete with guide pins for...

Has anyone here built a CBC router?

Never even seen a CBC router, but I have built a tiny CNC router. To answer your questions in order:yes, about the same as a quality 1/2" collet router and I started from scratch.

    Testing moisture content

You have found the reality of using a meter;it only measures the moisture content in the region of the probes. If you try the oven method be aware that you should only go a little above 100 deg C,too much heat will drive out the resins and oils in the wood and the additional weight loss will...

    Steam bending Large timber

Easy job.You will need to add a wedge at the top by the look of it unless you plan to mitre the vertical piece on.Springback doesn't look hugely significant just lay the cleaned up laminate on top of your rod (full size drawing if you aren't familiar with the term) and carefully mark the...

    Steam bending Large timber

Is there a problem if there is a 1.5mm springback on the project?Without seeing what the proposal is for its a bit difficult to either praise or condemn any of the proposals.Laminating in stages is quite easy and even gives the benefit that you can rout a groove up the middle laminates to run...

    Small CNC Router Build

Looking very promising.I got mine moving under it's own power a few weeks ago and it is a very satisfying moment when it does what you want.Totally homebrewed machine running Linuxcnc and using the Path module of Freecad to generate code. You might find the youtube videos of that aspect very...

    Steam bending Large timber

Jacob's suggestion of steaming the laminates and then gluing is a possibility, there is a significant problem though.A lot of glues are quite intolerant of excessive moisture content and freshly steamed timber is inclined to be a bit moist. It would need a fair amount of time to stabilise and...

    Steam bending Large timber

First of all, welcome to the forum.I suspect you will get a range of replies and they may differ a bit,the best solution is likely to be in among them. Its interesting that you are bilingual when it comes to measurements and it hopefully indicates that answers involving either sort of units will...
