You will need a pen mandrel and bushes to suit the pen kits you intend to use, there are many suppliers, Google is your friend here. You can also improvise by making pens to suit the cheap biro inserts, will require some accurate drilling to get them to fit. Also try Pinterest for inspiration
I get out the chainsaw mill and cut into planks around 3 -4 inches thick, then seal and lay in stick untill required.

I have an Axminster cabinet mounted saw it can be dismantled easily enough and was delivered that way. So a cabinet mounted one with the motor underneath may be a starting point.
Bu88er - No not tried locally as they are all shut down, thought I would try the forumites first - hadnt considered brass though, as long as it softer than the HSS tools I use it should be okay so i will extend the request to any non ferrous shavings.

Unfortunately there is not a single tool that will cover all your needs, to convert trees to blanks I use a chainsaw to fell and billet, then an alaskan mill on the chainsaw to tun the logs into boards of varying thickness, then the bansaw to convert to turning blanks - yes sone of those tasks...
If you get stuck it is a fairly easy job to fabricate a free standing tool rest, a local welder / fabricator should have no problem if you do not have access to a mig or tig set, lots of inspiration on the WWW.
I started with one of the slightly better junk sets, then as they individually wore out I gradually replaced with better quality, spreads the cost of quality items and still ensures you have a range of sizes to keep you going.
