This is my working Stanley 608 plane, with the lever cap (and blade/chipbreaker) salvaged very cheaply from an old transitional Stanley 33. (I did have to file a new adjuster slot in the older chipbreaker, but if you already have a No.8 chipbreaker this would not be necessary)

Some of the old transitional planes also had 2-5/8" wide blades/caps (and that's what's on my No.8:))

Usually the scraper and mitre box casting would have some japanning and bare iron/steel. The saw blade would originally be bare metal. Perhaps your tools have been cleaned by chemical or mechanical means before painting/plating

You can't tell from pictures of used saws if the saw teeth are correctly sharpened and set (although a video of it cutting through a log might help). luckily sharpening/setting is not difficult for a beginner to achieve acceptable performance (and you'll get better with practice). You'll need a...

I made this handle for my bench axe. Nice tight fit into the head but the handle is a bit of a botch job really, (although I like to say its "a custom job" with "character features":))

I used to worry a bit about being woken by "disaster" dreams, until I decided they were just designed to wake me up and get me to turn over, so as to relieve my body stress from lying in one position too long. Now when bad dreams wake me, I just roll over and go back to sleep.
