    mrMDF and Birch PLY question

Whilst 4 drivers will not work as hard …they will move large volumes of air in total. My cabs are 150 litres 😁😁 and go down to 18 Hz using Volt drivers which are bomb proof but £££££. I have an internal cruciform brace with an adjustable pad that supports the rear of the drive magnet too. A...

    mrMDF and Birch PLY question

My sub cabinets for my lounge system are constructed from 30mm mdf with 18mm internal bracing. They are clad in 18mm yellow belau hardwood. Subs generate large internal forces from the volume of air moved by …in my case a 18” driver so the internal cruciform bracing is essential. My ported...

    Chestnut Zipper Dining Table

A fine sunny day here so after 30 mins sanding/ surface treating a sequoia table I’m part way through it was time to set up the bora caterpillar table and get the chestnut planks from the garage. I’d marked out the positions of the channels late yesterday so today was a chance to get the planks...

    Chestnut Zipper Dining Table

Earlier in the year I got my hands on a 90mm thick 2.4 x 0.5m slab of chestnut ….a long return journey to Whitlsea. Took it to my contact with a portable milling saw to get it split Here it is after splitting and a quick run over with the belt sander After levelling on my milling table the...

    Cookie Slice

Once you have your slice soak both faces in a mix of 75%white spirit 25% Tung oil …..it will slow down the moisture loss and potentially the splitting. What thickness are you going for ? Alternatively my wife has used these for table centres at weddings...

    Lets see your wood

On a good quality table saw it cuts very cleanly. Routing wise …a sharp cutter is best 😀. In respect of sanding the long grain ….it can scratch easily from the edges of folded sandpaper.. I’d avoid using a belt sander. The parts of the redwood heartwood can stand proud of the background.
