    WD-40 is mainly paraffin and wool fat (lanolin) the paraffin is the ‘carrier’ and lanolin is a lubricant…used in hand cremes and of course it’s source is raw wool - it waterproofs sheep 😁 hence its displacement properties

    Parkside belt sander, mains, any good?

    I had one a few years ago …..after some vigorous use the belt no longer remained in tension so I got a full refund. I replaced it with a c 1970‘s battleship built Wolf sander - cost £20 more off eBay but it’s built like a tank and has tackled several cookie slab and other slab sandings etc...

    progress report on this weekends work…… with the two pieces now jointed I managed to set it up on my surfacing table and get a flat surface on the bottom of the ‘slab’ …the pics below shows the mismatch on the underside. and on the flatting rig after removing a couple of mm off the high...

    Having finally got my hands on this very interesting book matched..ish slices of figured elm I thought I would document the journey from receipt of the wood to finished project. Here is the elm as I received it The elm is 22mm thick but the reverse side isn’t anywhere near flat …..and isnt...

    They are very expensive and require the wearing of blue nitrile gloves (the sensor system detects them) . They are very effective but the huge bang they make when the brakes cut it in ….could also give you heart failure 😁

    It will become the top of a 4 leg coffee table. Joining the book match pieces & flattening it will be the 1st challenge as I recon I’ll loose 8mm of the 22mm thicknes. Plan is to support it on slats underneath it.

    Well I finally got my hands on the elm 😁😁😁 The sender managed to speak with the collection driver who found it had been delivered to a garden centre 1/2mile away …….turns out somehow the parcel had their address on it 😡😡😡

    QAC‘s have been removed from use in commercial food manufacture due the the adverse effects on effluent treatment…..use with care
