    The closest would be cow gum …made from the hooves of cattle which is keratin the same as horns. Not sure of why you would use it for wood though. It’s available on Amazon

    Eye wateringly expensive 😩 you could also wipe on epoxy resin to harden the surface or a 50% solution of a solvent based varnish with white spirit would soak into the more porous spalted areas and harden them up.

    Wearing a good quality face mask or a respirator should be good protection from any released fungal spores and allow you to real those interesting patterns the fungus produces.

By taking care in its use and being aware of the blade etc it can be used perfectly safely …..I’ve ripped the edge of some boards ok but down the centre of a board etc is a tricky operation and I too...
