    Furniture scriber branding outcome.

I thought people who contributed to my thread regarding branding the furniture scriber I've designed would like to know the outcome. After much thought I opted for using my url to go on the side of the scribers (for reasons not worth going into again). I decided to have a stamp made which...

    Adirondack chairs

I made this adirondack chair using plans from a FWW magazine a couple of years ago. Obviously not the same plans you used. I used sapele. I take my hat off to you mine took a lot longer than 20hrs! Phil.

    Meranti double driveway gates

On the boards swelling. I would take an off cut, measure the width then dunk it in water for 24 hours . Measure the width again when it's swollen with water and that gives a worse case scenario of how wide the boards could expand (not that they will be submerged in water when they are in the...

    Meranti double driveway gates

Be mindful of the gap between the t and g boards, they will swell quite a lot when they get wet. Nice gates though!

    Walnut jewellery box

Thanks for the kind words re the box. I normally build up several coats of oil on walnut until I get a sheen, then wax on top. This gives a nice tactile finish with a certain amount of reflection but not a high reflective French polish type surface which I'm not keen on and I don't think it...

    Walnut jewellery box

I sold this jewellery box today. It is one of a batch of 6 I made to the same design but using different timbers to give potential buyers a choice. I often make them in batches to try and keep the cost down. As with all my boxes this one is jointed with handcut dovetails. This one is walnut...

Weldon tools router cutters -- opinions ?

Ditto others. I have also been using them for many years with no complaints.

    Your opinion about logos.

Thanks Tom, that's good advice. It's a bit tricky because my furniture making is obviously not tool making so putting Tooley Park Furniture on the scriber might seem a bit odd to some people. You are right though I've had so much advice on this I'm going around in circles a bit (not a complaint...

    Your opinion about logos.

I made my original one of these thirty years ago from an idea in a book. The one I'm producing now bears little similarity to the original albeit the principle is the same. I've sold a few of these already and the customers have all been either sole traders or small furniture companies fitting...

Collection boxes and clock for Cambridge Central Mosque

Fantastic work. I would be paranoid about wood movement and splitting on those end grain "L" pieces on the box but I'm sure you've made it to allow for some movement.

Fair enough AJB, thanks for your comments.

    Your opinion about logos.

Shed7 is of course right anyone could make the same tool. I did get the idea from a book but I have developed the concept so it’s a much better version and I like to think well made (whilst keeping it affordable I hope). I asked the original question because someone who bought one suggested...

    Your opinion about logos.

There could be lettering on both sides or I could put "thescriber.co.uk" below the pencil holder which wouldn't be so obvious but would be visible enough to read. Would "the-scriber.co.uk" be better or am I over thinking it?

    Your opinion about logos.

If I have "scriber" as the logo (which I like) this won't help anyone who sees it know where to purchase it. If I have "scriber.co.uk" as the logo that would obviously point people in the right direction to buy it. Do companies use their url as their company (and therefore logo) name and is...

    Your opinion about logos.

Pils, that’s an extremely generous thing to do for me, I don’t quite believe it! I have pm'ed you but I just want to say how much I appreciate it. I like it. Ok, what do other people think? As the logo do we like “scriber”, “the scriber” or “the furniture scriber” Setting up a separate site...

    Your opinion about logos.

Thanks again for everyone’s input on this. I’m not really sure how to proceed at the moment but I’ve got some ideas now. I’ll look into etching to see how much that might cost per scribe. I like the idea of a stamp as after the initial outlay and set up (some kind of jig in a press to get...
