I like the dovetails too (and I've cut a few in my time!). Phil. tooleypark.com bespokehandmadeboxes.co.uk

    Spindle moulder or router table?

I use Whitehill blocks if I have to but use the Euro block most of the time. I’ve got an old Robinson sm which has a split fence and reverse. I also picked up a power feed on the way. I have to say I’m always a bit uncomfortable starting it up when I’m using a whitehill block. I put a big lump...

New woodworking TV show on BBC2

I have always found I get frustrated with any of these programmes because I want to know about the making process in detail and they don’t normally go into any detail (presumably because the masses would switch over). But, we have youtube now where there’s plenty of detail (sometimes too much...

    Oak chest of draws.

Ren. This is only my opinion so disregard as you wish but you’ve made such a good job of this piece and you’ve used a quality hardwood. Pine isn’t very hard wearing and over time those drawers will bind because the grooves have widened (I appreciate this will happen with a hardwood but a...

Nice piece Ren. What have you used for the drawer sides? They look a bit light for oak. P.

    Latest modern kitchen

Am I the only one without a dish washer? I like this kitchen (apart from the floor). It's a lot more interesting than painted shaker doors which seems to be the fashion now. How practical it is I don't know as I'm no cook!

Oak jewellery box with burr ash lid panels.

Not anywhere near as much as making say a fitted wardrobe! Prices are on the shop page of the box site Fergie. I obviously charge extra for the carving.

Adding a splash of colour to the scriber

I’ve added blue and red to the colours on the scriber I make. People are generally choosing these over black, and red seems to be more favourable than blue. Phil. tooleypark.com bespokehandmadeboxes.co.uk

Oak jewellery box with burr ash lid panels.

Every time clients of mine have a new grand child they buy a box from me and I carve the child’s name on the front. This is the third box they have bought from me. This is an oak jewellery box with burr ash veneered lid panels. I gave the client the choice of an oak or lime nameplate and they...

Turning a spindle moulder into a router table.

Hi Ian, I believe there are adaptors available to use router cutters on spindle moulders. As you say speed I would have thought would be an issue. Does anyone on here use router cutters on a moulder? I’m not sure that the noise levels are any different from handheld. P.

Turning a spindle moulder into a router table.

Router tables often crop up so I thought people might like to see my set up. Originally I bought one of those tables where you bolted the router to the underside and the table pivoted for access. I didn’t like it very much and at the time I had the opportunity of buying an old Cooksley spindle...

    Oak Box

Nicely made box Scooby. Re the hinges I agree they seem to be a bit over sized. If you look at the Brusso range there is 1 ¼” (I think that’s the right size) quadrant hinge which is the size I used to fit on my boxes. They are a total pain to fit and are now insanely expensive. I’ve gone...

    Walnut jewellery box

Thanks Kevin. I could make more but getting them down to a price someone might buy would be a struggle. There are a lot of people making boxes so it's not like there is a lack of choice for people.

    Walnut jewellery box

I’ve just sold this walnut/burr walnut maple box which is going down to Taunton at the start of next week. This was one of a pair. They were quite a challenge to make because the dovetails are cut on a curve. I made a hand plane so I could shape the inside curve of the box. A commercial disaster...

    Furniture scriber branding outcome.

Re colours, one for and one against so far. Thanks Pils for kind words. I've sold a couple abroad now. These were bank transfer transactions rather than paypal which is how most people pay. I'm not used to selling abroad so finding my way a bit. Both bank transfers are not showing in my...

Thanks for all the favourable comments chaps. Here are some images of the press I've bought and the jig I made for repeat position and a quick video. Ollie the hole for the pencil is 8mm Marcus the pressure on the clock is mpa ( I'm not sure what this is and how it equates to psi) but I'm...
