Wall mounting a 35kg tv on a stud wall

If the mount is static e.g you won’t be using it to pull the tv out and pivot it etc, I would be comfortable with using the gripits. If it’s a pull out and pivot type, which mine is, I mounted some 18mm plywood between the studs and then fixed into that. So far rock solid when cantilevered out...

    Metal Window Frames

The difference in U value between PVC and Aluminium was negligible when we had new windows in an extension. The Aly were a lot more solid feeling though and the frames were slightly smaller so let more light in. Over a 25 year lifespan the cost difference was more palatable too

    Pillar drill for awkward shape

Agree with CHJ, if you’ve got a lot to make and they’re all the same a bushed jig will make it quick and repeatable

    Pergola

I’d give it a coat if preserver I’d it were me. You can get clear if you don’t want to mess with the colour.

    Knife blade blanks

No worries, i wasn’t sure it was just a sheet of steel you were after, was guessing you wanted it a few more steps along. GFS are a great supplier, so you’re sorted there.

    Knife blade blanks

What sort of knife, and what are the plans? If you’re after a heat treated blank to grind your own bevels on, I could knock one up in the next week or two (once the spark has connected up the workshop)

    Blue stain in elm

Success, after first coat the pale one is pretty much gone, and the darker is almost out. Will do another coat now, then guess it’ll need a bicarb wash to neutralise.

    Let’s see if this works

    Blue stain in elm

It’s a drink cabinet (well that’s what we use it for) (Picture lazily taken from internet, mines the same but tattier) The top is just above belly button height and I’m 6ft 3 so an awkward height for most to write at. But being 70 years old, ink stain seems a good guess. Will order some...

    Blue stain in elm

Currently refinishing some ercol furniture from eBay and there are some bluish stained areas on the top, which look to be from something wet being placed on top. I’m not sure how deep it will be so before I try skimming with a fine set plane, it would be good to get some advice from anyone...

    Anybody know about Felco secateurs?

I’ve never put a back bevel on mine and they’ve cut well for over 20years.

    Shapton Ceramic Glass Stones

The have a few and like them (220, 500,2k,4K,6k) Pros are that they cut fast, they don’t really slurry -just black swarf, stay flat if you spread the wear etc Downsides are the cost, they are pretty slim so the coarser ones can wear through if you sharpen a lot ( but for the speed and other...

    Which water stones?

This What do you want? Quicker Harder/softer Less slurry Or is it just that you aren’t getting a good edge, in which case the rock you rub it on is less relevant than technique and process. 220 If it needs it, 1k, 6k, strop should give an edge that’ll take shaving off endgrain. If you...

    Replace bread knife handle

I’d be interested in how long it lasts without pins. What type of glue did you use out of interest? Brass or copper rod lightly peined is straight forward enough to do, a hammer in a vice can double as a small anvil to pein on.
