    Which Wi-Fi mesh?

UniFi is virtually plug and play to get it working, gives you a unified console with everything in one place. Once working you can then at your leisure start tweaking. There are loads of great tutorials. Unlike older kit you can do it through clicking through menus rather than having to use...

    Which Wi-Fi mesh?

Another +1 for ubiquiti, recently got round to sorting my home network after years of waiting to get round to it. It cost a little more but has been faultless and being able to firewall off each of the wireless networks, set bandwidth allowances, is great. Have seamless WiFi all through house...

In the same time, my pan has got married and had a kid I continue to recommend them to anyone who wants a pan for life. Smallest makes a cracking Spanish omelette

    Tormek Grinders

CBN performs better at high speed grinding than diamond, At a guess it may be a translation of better at high speed to better at HSS. You can use the bench grinder kit tormek make to use their jigs on any powered grinder or linisher, so if you’ve invested in those you can still use them when...

    Restoring an old tool chest

A screwdriver bit in a brace can be useful for letting you keep downwards pressure while you apply a lot of torque quite qently. If the slots aren’t clean it’s worth a bit of time with an awl to get them tidy so you get good contact with the screwdriver bit. If you can leave them be though I would

    Incredible work!

It’s worth reading through the write up on his site too http://www.sethgould.com/ The process followed to make it shows a real craft. It’s the sort of thing that makes me appreciate funding for arts, as it gives people the chance to just focus on making The puzzle lock he made recently is...

    Sealer for Shou Sugi Ban

I haven’t seen anything to delineate, but all I used was English speaking Google rather than having expertise! You certainly can leave the crocodilian pattern, but stabilising that for something that’s going to be handled would be difficult. Once you wire brush and wire wool the surface the...

    Sealer for Shou Sugi Ban

I’ve had success stabilising with hard wax oil, and then top coating with a home brew wax containing carnauba. Applying with Coarse wire wool helps too

    waterstones

It’s worth reading up on Sigma as the different types are intended for different things, pretty sure it’s on Stu’s tools from Japan website. Shame you aren’t closer or you could come and try some of my finer stones. As you will have done all the work to get sharp on the coarser stone, the...

Stainless steel top for island unit

Stainless will look great for a bit, you’ll get a few scratches and be annoyed it’s looking tattered, then after a year it will be a hazy mass of scratches and you’ll be used to it no longer looking nicely brushed. I’d be tempted to go a cheaper grade and spend the saving on thickness. You won’t...

    waterstones

Sigma are nice stones, think dictum or dieter Schmidt stock them in europe. Now you have the 1k, the 6k+ stone won’t be doing much work and so can be a softer type. I’d see what you can find for a good price. As you’re stropping on autosol, I’d stay 6-8k personally for most things I don’t see...

    Food board sealing/finishing

Once oiled, a topcoat of home brew wax made with mineral oil and pure beeswax gently melted together helps.

Maple veneer needs oil - advice please?

Sand gently, 240g would be a good starter, don’t go through the veneer by being to rough Once smooth, pick a finish. Wax oil would work and be easy

What tool(s) would you buy for £200?

I think best advice is to buy materials and start making! On a slightly more serious note, if you don’t know then hold fast, sooner or later you will need a tool
