do you need overload protection with a DOL

cheers, ordered a DOL, assume it’s not overly difficult to add overload protection down the line. It’s a pedestal stand extractor just for my linisher so will be a short run of ducting

do you need overload protection with a DOL

Thanks Spectric fully see that there are cases where you'd want one - but didn't have the knowledge to know how essential it was / risky it would be to not have one! Being a dust extractor i'm assuming that after start up load it'll be fairly constant in it's demand (assuming no blockages)

do you need overload protection with a DOL

Hi hoping someone in the know can help. Bought a dust extractor on ebay and it has come with the motor wired but no switching. My thought was to add a DOL to switch it on and off. The cheaper ones say they don't come with overload protection - is this something that i need? Motor is 0.55kw...

cutting mild steel with a coping saw....can't cope

I’ve managed to saw through tool steel with pegas wood blades as that was all I had at the time. Went slow but it did work. will be interested to know if pinch dogs are worthwhile, or if clamps are just better

    What happens now?

Agree droogs, I’d also add in the square footage of my house that I pay for and is solely used by my employer. Have you seen you can claim a tax rebate from Hmrc to offset some of the cost?(worth doing) Ultimately the money saved on offices should go the workers now shouldering the cost.

You know the world is moving fast when....

Is client side security their concern though? I doubt it is this, I think it’s more likely to be streamlining their tech to not need to maintain both a website and app. Simple economies rather than security. With upcoming recession and anticipated increasing bad debt lending companies are...

    What happens now?

Yeah with current rules as a business you need to be careful about setting up a branch in another territory, and as a worker having the right to work. But I can see that changing, businesses already offshore a number of elements - IT development in Eastern Europe and India, call centres etc. All...

    What happens now?

This also brings up the question of how remote can you be from the office. Will we see more people moving to the country as they can now work in remote areas and not worry about commutes. Then what about overseas, could you do your job from the south of France? Or what if it just makes...

Low angle, bevel up jack plane

Another approach would be to try at 25, if the edge doesn’t hold up in use, then add a micro bevel increasing the angle til it holds up in use. mad has been said once you get too high on the bevel it’ll be presenting at the same angle as a regular plane and so is no longer “low angle”

    Drill bits with countersink?

Absolutely, though the pain has healed now and I can just enjoy using it without wincing! The snappy set I had before were perfectly fine, but were more prone to clogging and didn’t have the same depth stop feature. If you’re going to do 5000 holes with it the cost per use drops ( or something...

    Drill bits with countersink?

I’ve used a few and recently got a festool one. It’s so much better than the others it almost justifies the new cost. If you have a lot to do it’d be worth it for the ease of use

    Kippers

Nothing to do with EU requirements, more to do with them being made on the cheap with smoke flavouring. You can still get proper kippers, like most things to get good ones it’s a case of finding somewhere that makes them. You can also still get bloaters, made by not cutting the herring first...

    Finish for chopping boards

Linseed oil is pretty strong tasting, whereas mineral oil is verging on flavourless. Why is there a hunt for alternatives to something that’s cheap, easy to apply, readily available, safe to drink, and effective?

    How to assemble this

If it were me I’d do it in phases, top 2 shelves together and bottom 2 shelves together, probably dry fitting the sides to keep everything aligned and square but removable so you can assemble all the pieces once you have the two subs

    Finish for chopping boards

Mineral oil til it stops soaking in, then a beeswax oil mixture to top coat. topped up every couple of months will keep the board in good condition. my endgrain maple has been used daily and still looks virtually new after about 10 years

    Bandsaw and table saw

Not sure if eBay items are allowed or not, but looks a bargain for someone. This seller has an old Oliver bandsaw for £240 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274587462452 They also have an old table saw listed with sliding table like a pk but not a pk also for £240 Shame to see decent bits of kit...

Has anyone mastered the Hovel pencil plane?

Shame Manufactum has stopped selling to the UK due to brexit. They generally had decent stuff.
