do you need overload protection with a DOL

Thanks, yeah it doesn’t have the OL, but I can’t see how to set up the control circuit. may need to call a spark, but thought I’d ask here as people are pretty knowledgeable and helpful!

    Wood identification please

Spalting can make pretty plain domestic timbers have a lot of figure. I’ve got some nice book matched spalted beech that I plan on using for cupboard doors eventually. If it’s still solid I’d use it for something

    Cut off/scrap fever

Hardwoods I’ll hoard, softwood goes to kindling. trying to follow the often repeated advice of pick a few timbers and use them, that way easier to use offcuts in the next project

    Pillar drill

Depends how fresh you want it looking. strip all the old paint then build up layers of primer and filler getting everything smooth before finishing with a 2 pack paint system. Or clean it all down with brake cleaner, and a coat of rattle can. have you checked it all mechanically, worth making...

Sacrificial anode for machine tools rust prevention

One of these under a cover should do the trick, https://uk.farnell.com/pentagon/ach20-20w-230v/heater-anti-condensation-20w/dp/3183166 Once I sort out a tool chest for my decent stuff I’m planning to put one of these in the back, and then running it through winter

    Fishtail chisel

Yeah that’s the one, seems quick to make and effective. I’ve got a ply offcut somewhere that should be big enough.

    Fishtail chisel

Cheers, yeah usually do exactly that. The jig allows an easy curve to the handle so narrow front and back and some swell to the middle. More thinking about making a jig out of intrigue than due to a real need, bit like the chisel!

    Fishtail chisel

After the discussion here https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/fish-tail-chisels.127785/page-2#post-1428363 And Pete Maddex showing one he had made I’m having a go at making a fishtail chisel. started with some O1 tool steel, looking at other chisels 125mm should be enough In 3mm thickness I...

    End grain chopping board.....

Performance wise straight Maple is going to be best. As has already been said the pores on mahoganies are too open. Keep it simple and focus on getting tight joints and even spacings.

If you’ve got the patience it’s doable

    Humerous posts

Scones and cream is just posh jam on toast As a general preferrer of savoury than sweet, and being forced into a work baking thing I made green chilli cheese scones served with cream cheese and then red chilli sauce. That was pure decadence!

    Humerous posts

Do you put your butter on after your jam when you make toast? what’s wrong with a bit of cream melting into the scone, win win in my book

    Fish tail chisels

That’s the semi plan, though may go octo as can just knock the 45s off a square block.

    Fish tail chisels

thanks Pete, I’ve got some 3mm O1 already I was going to use (left over from making a new blade for a plane) so may give it a go this week. Without a lathe the handle will be a more basic affair though.

    Fish tail chisels

Nice work Pete, like the look of that. Could I trouble you for some dimensions? How wide is it at the bevel end How wide is the narrower shank How much splay does the fishtail have

    Fish tail chisels

Shouldn’t be too hard to shape one from O1 steel

    Chisel tang repair

The get hot and hammer approach will also require an anvil of some sort. filing/grinding off the mushroom then fitting to a handle would be more straight forward.
