    Kitchens

Frying pan, get carbon steel and season it, decent pan will last forever, and I find better for most things compared to cast iron

I’m with AJB, the designer focused on the look, I made sure it work for me as the cook of the house. Ours is mostly off the shelf bits but needed some customising to fit my hob, which is huge. Also worth thinking about noise, not a single designer we spoke to considered it, we didn’t go top...

    Rebuilding a Kiyohisa Oire Nomi

Nicely done, hopefully the back had been well maintained? I would expect the original handle was burnt onto the tang to make the mortice, something I’m yet to do but keep meaning to. Chiselling out is such a calmer more controlled process.

Wood to avoid for cutting boards?

Bamboo is horrible for knife edges, limited difference between edge and endgrain on edges

Wood to avoid for cutting boards?

Beech sycamore maple are good choices avoid open grain, tropicals with high silica content, stuff with knots.

    bandsaw

Having a small startrite bandsaw for metal, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with a bigger one for wood, as mentioned above everything is very nicely made. if Going the second hand route the tires and the guides are the main areas I’d check for wear/damage

Owen Bush - bushfire forge - is out East London way - he’s more of a Bladesmith but does taster days (covid allowing) and also may well know someone else local https://www.owenbush.co.uk/

    Tool chest hardware supplier

You could look for a local blacksmith offering taster days, they look doable in a day with some instruction.

do you need overload protection with a DOL

Cheers, the internals gives me the starter but the rest of the control circuit is on the overload relay. Just ordered a 1.1-1.6a OL as I worked out FLC to be 1.5a on the motor. When that arrives all should be fine (crosses fingers it’s compatible)

Drilling a hole through a screwdriver bit

Carbide Masonry drill sharpened on a diamond stone has worked for me on hardened tool steel. carbide drill will do it to, but as has been said they’re fragile and if you snap it in the whole you’re going to be starting again.

do you need overload protection with a DOL

Thanks, that makes sense it’s the control circuit I seem to be missing looking closely I can see what the start switch on the box is acting on but not the stop, it seems to just float. Went with Eaton as Spark who wired workshop rates their stuff, if I need to goback to the shops any links for...
