    Tuff Saw blades

I find the changing the blade not too bad, it’s getting all the guides and tracking back properly that takes the time. Another +1 to tuffsaws being a decent supplier.

    2" x 72" UK?

The shredder belts from gfs are great for hardened steel. I was sceptical of the coolant coating but it works surprisingly well. At 36 or 60 grit you’d have to be really trying to take it over temper heat.

    2" x 72" UK?

72” length also gives more options in terms of abrasives, and work out a bit cheaper per length. Worth having flexibility to take 2 metre belts too as sometimes eBay has bargains that people looking for 1865mm miss. 2x72s also will give you tooling arm options for flat platten, contact wheel...

    2" x 72" UK?

I have a maxi grinder from Ali @downland linked above, has been solid and reliable for past 8 years. There are quite a few more grinder makers now in the uk than there were. If you look on Instagram for: manchester grinders 118 blades Mike palmer (hotbigmike) They all make and sell them and...

    Using cooker extractor over lathe.

In my new kitchen I spent a while getting an extractor that would work and not be deafening. Cost a lot more than my dust extractor. It does work though

Newbie needs help sourcing metalwork tools.

There’s a lot more availability than there used to be since the advent of forged in fire and lots more people giving it a go. multitoolproducts and groundflatstock are good suppliers for knife making kit. There’s also quite a few smaller businesses making grinders and the like 118blades and...

    Small shed thoughts

Put the stuff in the garage in the shed and reclaim the garage. I just built a small shed to fight the encroachment of what gets called the garage, but I call my workshop. Particularly if you want to use in the winter and are worried with noise.

POE cables - I'm going insane!

It’s ghost work to me. Whole house is cat 6 and took a year of fiddling to work. Science did not seem to apply

    Linisher and dust extraction

I probably should have added that mine is running a dedicated extractor, with flame retardant filters, and only metal is ground. I also have quick release hose clamps so that when I grind wood I can switch extractors. works well for me and balances the fire risk with the coating of steel dust...

    Linisher and dust extraction

Dust bong is the makeshift approach to this but is pretty effective. Basically it’s a box of water in between the DX and the linisher. This acts to catch and extinguish sparks. It does drop suction a bit but worth it to not have to worry about fires. I’ll take a few pics of mine

    documentary on netflix

Pretty much all intensive farming can be seen with an impact on natural habitats and other species. Palm oil crops and beef farming are destroying rainforests Fishing does need tighter controls on practices and processes. The UK isn’t a big consumer though so only so much we can do. Shame...

    Best handle wood?

Ash. If you need some let me know and I’ll try and dig some out. If he’s anything like me he’ll want a straight parallel handle so that you can hold it anywhere up the shaft. Smithing handles are traditionally scorched finish. Helps with grip and stops it looking manky. But of linseed every...
