    Cleaning Domestic Oven

Oven pride, with a bit of cling film over the top to stop it drying out if our in the open If it’s gotten thick burnt on bits like in photo, careful scraping with a razor blade works well. On horizontal surfaces wiping the run off back up the walls every hour or so helps I concur mr muscle is...

Advice needed on cleaning and reviving joinery in Victorian property

Was about to say the same thing- for OPs benefit iron reacts with tannin in oak to turn it black. Don’t use wire wool. There’s a thread on here with a recipe for a wood reviver for cleaning woodwork on old tools. Similar thing would work well

    Bandsaw blade tension

I’m also intrigued, always assumed it was because it could be tensioned more so manufacturers say why not and publish the higher figure. I managed to snag a Starrett tension gauge on eBay that wasn’t accurately described a while back. Is an absolute luxury but is really nice to be able to take...

    Insurance

Some of the household insurers cover outbuildings up to the limit on contents cover, but many don’t. From memory LV do, but definitely check

    Stanley No 4 1/2 restoration

Flat head driver in a brace is normally hard for a screw to say no to. If the driver bit is a good fit to the head of the screw hard for it to do any real damage

10mm holes in 8mm mild steel

Without a vice clamp something to the table to butt the piece up against. Will stop it windmilling if the steel tries to catch. 4mm then 10mm will be fine, slow the speed down and use some cutting lubricant

Does this table design look strong enough?

If they’ll be kneading bread on it is put a centre support under the top to help support it. Plus do everything you can do to avoid racking.

    Drum sander conveyor belts

BND are pretty reputable for abrasives, I’ve used them and never had any issues with their recommendations

    Restoring Ercol Daybed

Anyone had any luck with a tinted oil to keep some richness in the elm. Pieces I’ve refinished have ended up very pale in comparison the 60 year old original patina

    Diamond sharpening, buying advice !

I would guess obsessions over flatness rarely translate to noticeable differences in sharpness in use for at least 99% of users. It’s an easy trap to fall into and one that people read so much about that they will then hold on to that view as it all sounds very sensible. You’ll have more impact...

    Sorby Pro Edge Coarse Belts

Below 60 grit belts really hog but the particles are quite big so you need more speed and motor hp to get them cutting well. Run them full speed and lean in to keep the pressure up on ceramics they need it or will dull quicker (higher pressure fractures grit keeping it sharp and cutting so the...

    2021 Secret Santa.

Really appreciate the offer but I’m happy to sit and watch. Not been a good year for me so probably shouldn’t take on commitments until I’ve sorted some stuff out anyway. Roll on 2022

    2021 Secret Santa.

Darn it, gmail changed their terms so my storage ran out and it knackered my account. Looks like I’ll be watching this year’s event from the sidelines.

How are you supposed to remove these screws?

Notched isn’t needed as it’s a plain slotted screw (rather than the split nuts typically seen on older saws)
