Mild Steel Angle Iron and Brass Screws

Whilst hypothetically true I doubt you’d find it to be an issue in normal usage- unless you’re making something safety critical I image you’ll be completely fine

    Softwood End grain - approach

The thing with filling is it’ll show unless you’re planning to paint. Better to get the edge smooth. Burning and a poor surface finish are two signs of a blunt blade- it might not have done much work but old scaffold boards will be full of grit and sand which is a killer of edges. With an...

    Softwood End grain - approach

Also worth getting a sharper saw blade for the cuts

    Softwood End grain - approach

Sharp plane and plane it smooth. So long as the edge is sharp and the depth of cut is shallow will slice through no problem. Or belt sand til smooth if power is the preferred approach

    milling a 4mm wide slot

Easy to slot them with a handsaw/bandsaw. Would need jigging to do on a table saw and be a bit sketchy. I find sawing out with a broach pretty quick. Another option would be to slot all the way through and then add an endcap. Easy enough to do by threading a jewellers saw blade through the...

    milling a 4mm wide slot

Look up handle broaches e.g. https://www.gfsknifesupplies.com/Products/handle-broach Used after drilling to form the slot. I make my own by re grinding jigsaw blades to suit (keeping the teeth but narrowing the blade) I use a hidden dowel for multi piece handles as it simplifies the process.

    Knive sharpening.

A competent user can always get a get good result. The question of does sharpening just one side make anything sharper than sharpening both is no it doesn’t.

    Knive sharpening.

I’m not sure why you think this? A triangle is still a triangle. I have knives I grind at around 3 degrees per side which gives an inclusive angle of 6 degrees. At that fineness the edge won’t stand up to much real use so they get a bevel added of around 10 degrees per side which gives an...

    Cooker hood poser...

Yeah they pull it through the filter which traps grease and apparently odours and then sprays the filtered air back into the room. I find them ineffectual so for my own kitchen I vent the extracted air through ducting. I also have stainless mesh filter grease traps which are dishwasher safe to...

    Oilstones advice

Tam o shanter- fine water stone, can be used for razors and knives. Large ones get a good premium on eBay. I had one for a bit but wasn’t a fan so gave it to a wood carver who found it worked well for quick touch ups between stropping

    Oilstones advice

Get some loose SiC powder if you want a cheaper way to lap stones. Makes a mess but works.
