    The wonder of the domino

I went out to see one of the joiners that works for me in my full time job as contracts manager the other day. He was doing skirting. He is in his 60’s and ‘was doing it properly’ (his words not mine) by hand. That’s all well and good and he made a good job but it took him all day to do a small...

What would you charge for this?

Without over complicating it decide how much you want per day or per week and go from there. Obviously you have to be realistic but also make money out of if.

Laser Measure - which one to buy?

I use the Leica one from time to time. I wouldn’t use it to measure and cut a piece of timber though. But it is useful, quick and accurate. I used it the other day to measure a fence. 7m long then I measured with my tape. Spot on to the mm.

    Kity k5 (i think 😁)

I’m not familiar with that Kity but the K5 has a sliding bed on the motor where one end of the belt is attached to tension the belt. Maybe yours is the same but like I say don’t quote me as I have no experience of that machine

Help: Which Combination machine for a beginner?

The Kity K5 is a really versatile machine. With sharp blades it will cut 2” oak and thickness 4x2 oak no problem. It has its limitations like all machines but it’s a good starting point and you can probably pick a good one up for £400

    Beam planers for hire?

I had a triton and was really impressed with it. Sold it when another child came and along and had to move house etc etc 🙈 If you buy one for the job and want to sell it on and you’re happy to post to Cheshire let me know. I’m sure we can sort something

    Oak Beam Fireplace

If you have the tools/skills (not being rude just don’t know if you have sorry) I would do a Mortice and tennon rather than dowels. I made one similar a few years ago and the movement in the timber was significant to the point where is annoyed me in the end. Top and both sides twisted and I...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Cut the curve on your timber then get a rebate cutter for a hand held router and let the bearing follow the curve. I find this the easiest method anyway but the cutters aren’t cheap. Trend 46/390X1/2TC Guided large rebater - 1/2" Shank | CNS Power Tools Ltd
