What, JFC?
I'm not saying we're powerful (we know only too well the precarious existence of a new magazine), but has any other woodworking magazine run a five-page feature about woodworking forums? Has any other magazine researched the stats to find that UKWorkshop has probably the highest...
Thanks, Jim. As you ask, I nervously mention that the second issue isn't out till 26th September, and that if you have any problems finding it you can email us ([email protected]) and we'll sort you out by PayPal.
Nick
You asked a question and you got the answer. It's called truth. What else do you want?
Perhaps we shouldn't have praised the UKWorkshop Forum so whole-heartedly in our first issue. No other woodworking magazine I've ever seen has given such coverage to forums before.
Nick
I posted the question because I felt the UKWorkshop was probably the best place to ask how an old woodworker who has just left hospital can mend his Racal Dustmaster. I had every intention of crediting UKWorkshop and whoever comes up with an answer should we use the solution in the magazine...
Thanks, ****. I think that will be beyond this particular reader. Where do you get the Euro batteries? We'll do something in the mag if it's a worthwhile technique.
Cheers
Nick
Does anyone know if you can get replacement rechargeable battery for a Racal Dustmaster, which has the pack on a belt around your waste? Is there anything that can be done? Or does anyone have a pack they don't want? We have a reader who needs one urgently.
Thanks
Nick
I visited Clico's workshop in Sheffield the other day, and discussed the manufacture of their Clifton planes and some of the topics raised in this thread. They explained some of the reasons for their choice of iron for various parts, as outlined by Matthew Platt of Workshop Heaven earlier in...
Thanks, John. You're right that it's far from perfect. There are many things I want to improve. In fact I was a bit disappointed at first, but I think that was largely launch blues. You seem to have gotten the point that it aims to go deeper than most magazines, and that requires some...
I'd noticed some mistakes too. No one likes bad editing, least of all myself, but I guess, Nick, the simple excuse is that when you are doing something with so few resources, working through the night, night after night, to produce a magazine as good as you can, something has to break at the...
As I wrote that I knew someone would pick me up on the inaccuracy. You're absolutely right, Senior, the night's younger than I thought!!! Good luck with the refurb. And I know, from other emails I'm getting, that there are others out there working into the small hours.
Nightie, night!
Thanks, Paul.
Working here at midnight on the next issue I can't imagine doing it monthly, unless perhaps we develop alternate teams who produce 'odd and even' issues. Now that's an intriguing publishing idea!! We would love to publish more frequently, and hopefully we'll be able to do that...
You get six issues for £17.50. The magazine is bi-monthly. Sorry that it's not clear; I'll try to sort that out asap. You can buy a single issue if you'd prefer, but it's now the full price! I've learnt my lesson not to offer mickey mouse discounts!!!!!! Just email me.
Cheers
Nick
Thank you, all. I really appreciate that. I hope we can make it better and better. It's good to hear what you liked as that helps direct the content of future issues. And thanks for contributions from members of the forum since the last thread!
Cheers
Nick
Thanks, Phil. Here's my thinking.
The broadcast of information in all media has changed dramatically in the last few years. Increasingly it is a case of information on demand, hence FWW's online subscription service. As you'll discover in the first issue of British Woodworking we are starting a...
