Don't know what that's about. Could you please email me your details to my email below so that I can check up why this has happened? You certainly won't miss out as a result. Please pass on your spare to a friend. I hope you're enjoying it. Cheers Nick

Just out of interest, and so that we know what people are thinking, what do you find 'hit and miss', Joe? It's always (usually) good to hear feedback (however painful!). Thanks Nick

Thanks, Lee, both for subscribing and for telling the world about our customer service (which I'm sure isn't always that good!). There is an issue with our online subscriptions because it's not always clear which new subscribers want to start with. We are now assuming people want to start with...

Thanks for all your comments. I've been away for the last week and missed the comments. As Olly comments, British Woodworking is very unlikely to go monthly in the near future, though subs are doing really well and it's very tempting. For the moment I love the balance of producing BW one month...

    Great. See you there. Nick

Of course that's a fair point, the difference being, surely, that a Forum is set up to be a vehicle for open discussion, with soft management undertaken by mods? It's meant to be open-ended. It's meant to create its own community. That some of you wearing UKW badges choose to stand behind a...

    Axminster at Rycotewood

I still don't understand why a few of you, if the offer is still there, don't stand behind a bench at Rycotewood, wearing UKW badges with a laptop to show what the Forum can do? You won't all agree on how it should be run (as is true in any organisation), but you all want it to thrive. Work out...

I tend to agree. The trouble with any non-Forum element of a website is finding the content and being able to afford the time and finance to manage that content. From the little I've seen, only the big players like Taunton and PW are able to do this well because they have such a huge market and...

It is a real dilemma. The Forum's independence is its greatest strength (that and the enthusiasm of the members). Forums that are run by media organisations rarely work as well because there is a conflict between the commercial necessities of survival in business and the enthusiasm and...

I don't think you even have to demonstrate. If Axminster want you there as a presence to promote education and the sharing of information, then you only need a small stand and a laptop with a dongle to show what the Forum is about and the benefits it can offer woodworkers. Do some real-time...

We're having a stand there, to launch our initiative to get schools making block planes and, obviously, to sell subs. I think sharing might complicate matters. If Ian is serious about offering you some space, I would take a bench (Axminster may even supply you with one) and have a little sign...

I think one can get a bit holier than though about the motivations for anything (not saying that Ed is). There are usually a whole mix of reasons why I'll demonstrate at an event. a) It may bring me coverage and new readers which will fund what I do, and help me take what I hope if good to...

    UK Workshop Merchandise

Thanks to Tom for organising this. I only offered to help because I thought the Forum might need a company to put up the initial cost. Then I thought there might be something nice about joining forces, but realised from the outset that it might undermine the independence of the Forum. That...

    Please Vote for Anthony Dew

No idea. I know a little about them from Anthony, but they're certainly not woodworkers, and we should support our fellows, I think. It would be good for the cause of woodworkers for somebody like Anthony to win. Cheers Nick

    Please Vote for Anthony Dew

Anthony Dew, the founder of the Rocking Horse Shop nr York, is on the TV tomorrow (Monday 3pm, ITV) in a sort-of reality show and he needs your votes. It's called The People's Author and it's part of the Alan Titchmarsh Show. Four finalists are pitching to win a contract to write and have...

    Tools of the Decade

There's a guy who did some printing on enamel mugs for me. He may know of a supplier. Wizer: could you email me a photo of the mugs? Thanks Nick

    Tools of the Decade

Sounds good. Have you done this sort of thing before? Does someone have to stump up some cash to get it going? We could do that if you want, and sell them to Forum members at cost plus postage. Nick

    Tools of the Decade

Great idea, Ross. Perhaps we could do a combo branding of UKWorkshop and British Woodworking, as a hands across the airwaves sort of thing??? But I quite understand if you just want to keep it to UKW. Nick

Me too! Come on Tom: where do you get them? Nick

Don't know. It also depends on what type of plywood you buy. I tend to err towards birch or FSC-certified, and avoid Far Eastern ply because I can't be sure of its provenance. I try to avoid species or products that might be linked to illegal logging. Nick
