Can you beat this for quality?

Bought these in packs for years. A simple glue up brush from a well known company. First one the bristles came out all over the edge I was gluing. Second one the same. Next one in the photo. Will we ever be free of cheap imported goods that dont work properly.? Whats the worst import youve ever...

So, do most of you use sketch up for your designs?

Old school. Draw it up full size. Sometimes make a mock up or prototype from softwood depending what it is I'm making. I find perspective can be judged better than sketch up which I have used, and a full size drawing can be used as a rod. Invaluable for marking out dimensions quickly and...

    Thick Danish oil

Brought it inside and placed it in a warm place overnight. It actually became more fluid but still very sticky. Having another unopened tin to hand I used that. It's less than six months old so was surprised at the degradation over that time period.

Thickness normalising before or after routing parts?

If the wood isn't stabilised to environmental working\ use conditions it will continue to bow, and twist.

And from last year, Bella Bear. A well known design with modifications to the arm rest for more stability. Made a mock up from pine first to get dimensions correct and ensure enough beef and support in the back for the rocking action. You know what kids are like.

Thickness normalising before or after routing parts?

In my opinion, and from what you've said. This is production and cost sensitive. I'd be inclined to use 18 mill veneered ply. it's cheap will look good and the end sanded and stained will not detract from the overall appearance. Why go to anymore trouble? Nest your pieces on an 8x4 sheet press...

    Thick Danish oil

I always give my Danish oil a good shake up in the can to distribute the solids before applying. This is usually applied by pouring some into a container first. For some reason this last can has thickened somewhat as it reaches the last 1/5th. A bit like GTX oil or slightly thicker. I wans't...

    Vaccination

The press and forums here was filled with accusations against our government for its efforts, lets not forget. Scathing comments in fact. However, millions of the population decided not to social distance, said it was just like flu, and even today are refusing to wear protective masks. The...

    Vaccination

Exactly. I'm converted. Maybe the media don't report as simplistically and it will be misconstrued by many of the population as being non effective of cv19. Already reports are having to be put out to assure the public the vaccine they have been given are effective against the cv19 strain...

    Vaccination

And how sad is that? So much has changed in my lifetime. One of the big things is the failure to stand up and be proud of the countries achievements. How anyone can find that a political concern beats me, but you are probably correct.

    Vaccination

When you look round at other countries I feel proud of the UK people, government and planners who have made this all possible. Let's hope the country prosperous out of lockdown.

    Vaccination

Or as the BBC report on tv tonight a study of 2000 people found it didn't work. ...but they didn't quite put it out like that. Then the EU doing the same en block, Spain being the latest country willing to sacrifice lives for what appears to be an EU directive not to use the vaccine on certain...

How large should i build a router sled? (or what size are most tables)

I suppose it depends on how many slabs you wish to flatten. I wouldn't entertain making what you suggest, but rather get a wood supplier that has either a wide sander that will stick it through for you. In fact A lot of places sell slabs this size already converted to show the wood...

    Bit Fed Up

From my apprenticeships days the answer is yes there is. All tool room inspection areas, in general, carry a master set of slip gauges and square blocks. The national physics laboratory if I remember correctly have the standards. They have temperature control to ensure measuring equipment has...

    How To Buy Hardwoods

Excellent post. My two two penny's worth is this. In an ideal world I'd like to be able to see the surface that I was buying, at the cheapest price with the least defects and cut to the largest size I can get in my car.(LOL) That's not always possible on rough sawn. If I'm making up wide...
