    Glue & Teak

aerolite, due to the position, I would let it soak in some acetone for 5 mins upside down in a tub before blowing out and then injecting some aerolite. Then clamp up and leave for 24 hrs, should then last until your kids give it to their kids. The most important bit is to get rid of the natural...

Artex style woodfiller...looking for advice..any ideas?

It's trial and error as is also dependant on room temp. I go for a quick set mix as I use it while moulding edges with a router/moulder to get really smooth finish for painting. A 50/1bw ratio gets you around 5 mins, I think you could get it to stretch to 15-20 mins but too thin a mix and it...

Cascamite. Is it my incompetence or the product duff?

If made before march this year, bin it as phil says above, they had severe supply probs for the previous few years as one of the chemical came from a specific spot in Iraq and was not available. They tried to use something else instead and blamed it not working on every buyers apparent...

Herringbone veneered cabinet top - glue suggestions

@Reffc traditionally, veneers up to 1/8" were ironed on using hide glue after that or on curved work they were pressed using sandbags kept in an oven or with heated cauls. It works, just takes longer and you need a good iron

Herringbone veneered cabinet top - glue suggestions

As you are using MRMDF (no great risk of the ground moving as the weather changes), just make sure your balancing veneer is the same thickness as the herringbone and that you lay it in strips as wide as the apex to apex width of the pattern. Also lay the balance strips alternating face up and...

Artex style woodfiller...looking for advice..any ideas?

isopon body filler for cars. how quick it sets up depends on how much hardener you put in. It also sticks like snot. I use it for edges on mdf before painting all the time and as a background for all my gilding work

Anyone using a Faithfull No 7, good or avoid

With regards to Faithfull planes the #6s and up seem to come in an easier state to fettle thane the lower numbers. I don't know if this is due to them being given longer to season before being machined due to their size of casting. But the lower numbers are definitely not given long enough...

Antique wood and brass 10 inch level, need manufacturer for 18th century

The manufacturer was in all probability Mathieson at their main Saracen works near Glasgow Cross. They made their own branded tools there (most notably planes) along with contracted unbranded production runs for other resellers.. More info below...

My review of Itech Panel Saw

If you moved those deck chair frames on the right of the pic, you'd have room to budge the panel saw over and have a bit more room;) :p

    Biscuit Joiner or Dowels

Biscuits provide the ability to align thing not strength, dowels do provide strength but can be difficult to align properly. Have you thought about spliced mitres or even looking at some of the japanese/chinese furniture joints that provide both
