What do you use to clean your bits?

For small things that are quite dirty with stuck on grime I use a small jewellery sonic bath. Great for cleaning the threads of old machine screws etc

    A French Cleat question

Drill into the brick wall using the metal tube type plugs. M6 or M8 size is usually enough. Just remember the hole in the board to be fixed to the wall has to be the size of the threaded bolt and not the size of the barrel (that goes completely into the wall) only the threaded bolt should stick...

    Joke thread

Looking at that list reminded me of how much I used to roll around the floor watching those old films that Will Hay did during "the war". A much underated comedian, such a shame he died so soon after. What a team he and Norman Wisdom would have been on TV

How to benefit from smart meters?

@Phil Pascoe The link below shows interesting figures for Scotland. Basically ~95% of electricity consumption up here is provided by renewables. The only power problems I've had in the last 20 years was when a mouse chewed through the mains lighting ring for the rear half of the flat about a...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I really do like the lines of the refectory table. For me , I would have included either an ABW or a fumed Ash inlay to accentuate the flow of the curves.

    Holdfasts without the hold.

If the bench wood is that soft, perhaps you should re-drill the dog holes with a 40mm Oak stepped insert and drill new 19mm dog holes.

    Sites for woodworking Plans

Try "gothic hall boot bench" or "beidermeyer low demi lune cabinet" but the actual boot storage part is usually rectangular by the nature of the items to be stored inside and efficient use of space. But the image results will give you some ideas

    Cabinet Scraping

I use a #80 one a Stanley and one a Faithful. Both great once fettled. If i do have to use a blade on its own I use a small block of MDF with a bevel at each end held horizontaly and held in place by my thumbs, a bit less sore & hot
