Dealing with rats in subfloor void

I live in a ground floor flat in a long terrace built in the 1850s, the internal walls are mostly still lath and plaster for the most part and have this problem on and off. Bait boxes have been used with partial success as the terrace is around 150m long. As you can't force the neighbours to be...

    Bench Cookies

I bought one of the cheap yoga mats in B&M and cut that up to make non-slip pads for use under templates etc for the router and on top of 1" & 2" mdf disks for lifting things off the bench while painting and to stop the edges sticking while drying. The pad 2 was ~£10

A very expensive way to make veneers. I thought about getting one until I saw the price several years ago. Practice with a single point fence and a good sharp blade on a band saw + time are the best answer really, although on a visit to the Imperial furniture depot/museum in Vienna a few years...

Lacquer / Vinyl repair on bathroom cabinet

If you are not going to replace for a while then it will take about £20 to repair but a lot of time. The secret to it looking good is in the preperation. You need to basically feather out the edges of where the laquer ends and the raw surface begins. This has to be a gradual slope to avoid the...

    Rounding off Plane Iron Corners

Well, glad to see my time away hasn't seen any major changes to how threads go around here. @Pabs , If you are worried about track marks from usin a straight edge iron, just apply a little extra pressure on the last couple of strokes of your final grit on either side of the iron before stroping...

    Veneering advise

I think @TRITON just hasn't put it very well. He perhaps meant that the sheet of veneer should be place at 90 degees to the background grain it is being glued to on both the front and the back. Properly veneered boards should always have an odd number of layers to ensure even stresses that...

    Veneering advise

UF will defo give you some breathing space as you set up . Personally I would use plattens ~20mm over size all round for top and bottom covered in cling film. I would also tooth the veneer as this will give a much better key for the glue and as it spreads during pressing to help avoid voids...

    How is this inlay done?

It's not inlay but marquetry and is done on a chevalet de marqueterie - donkey (see below), probably using whale or walrus ivory and some precious metals (can't see too clearly in the pic) using the Boule marquetry technique. The image for each side is sawn out and assembled on a flat surface...
