Humidity and wood movement - the basics

One of the best ways to learn about the bundle of straws we play around with for both beginners and those who think they know about wood is "Cut & Dried" Richard Jones (our very own Sgian Dubh of this parish). It is the result of many decades of research and for me should be regarded as the...

    Things that bug you!!

I'm truly sorry if I've caused you to miss any sleep The main reason a Union flag can be upside down is that the flag has 2 lanyards to attach to the halyard on the pole, they are not the same length. The short one is at the top of the flag and ensures the flag is as high as possible on the...

Has Jessem & Incra (et al) been caught napping?

Have a dig around Banggood and Aliexpress, you will probably find the exact same item far cheaper. I noticed about 18 months ago as BG rose in popularity with their woodwork tools Rutlands suddenly had the same tools in a differnt colour for a fair bit more in price. Knowing someone who bought...

Anyone want to do a weight loss challenge?

I've always found it weird that the Americans use all the old English imperial weights and measures but stones. They only describe their weight in lbs and ounces have a smaller ton 200lbs as opposed to 2240lbs for British. Though on previous research I did find this ***-bit of info: English...

    Does anyone get this.

Here in Scotland there is a long tradition of siblings and parents taking the mickey by telling a member of the family the reason they have to do a particular task is that they are adopted and therefore implying they are not really a proper member of the family. but for this cartoon the child is...

    Things that bug you!!

Not as far as the Marshall of the Royal College of Arms is concerned. His desicion is final in all heraldic matters and he wears hard pointy shoes to prove it

    Passion or Profit?

That entirely depend on what you make. My workshop is 3m x 2.7m with a very weird 67 degree corner for the back wall. I have access to a big SCM panel saw and a massive 12' CNC table if needed but not used much. In that space I have a 2m roubo bench, morticer, bandsaw, pillar drill, 2 x router...

    Straight edge…twisted cut! Help

Your wood is still too wet or has been kilned too quickly and case hardened. Take a couple of strips off each edge and then leave the remainder a couple of days. Reflatten and then take some more off each edge.
