    Holdfast not holding wood down

The traditional way to get a good holding surface on a bench for hand tool working is to go over the benchtop with a toothing plane.

A very common fault for Epson printers from my days at repairing them. There is a pad that sits under the printhead rest postion. You can take it out and clean it with IPA let it dry an put it back but you do have to nearly totally dismantle the printer to do so.

Going around ever decreasing spirals until disappearing up.........

Use a thick centre post with a cord that is securely attachted with the pin at one end and a small palm router at the other. As you keep the cord tight and rout a circle the cord will wrap around the post and shorten giving you a fibonachi spiral cut as it gets shorter

    Holdfast not holding wood down

That is a good point @Phil Pascoe, i was assuming the OP was using a stop of some sort to prevent the reaction to his action. @worker if you are not then just get a bit of woo that fits in one of the dogholes and has a bit of hacksaw blade screwed on to act as a stop like below sort of thing

    Woodwork design to dispense envelopes?

Make a slanted tube at around 15 degrees that the stack of envelopes sit in with a slot at the bottom with a cutout for you finger underneath to then slide an envelope out. use a compressed spring and a plate inside attached to the top to keep a bit of pressure on the stack to ensure the...

    Holdfast not holding wood down

The holdfast will release pressure if the force against it is in line-ish with the direction of the tilt on the bar. I use a lump hammer on mine to ensure a good fit and then tap the holdfast from behind to release. Ususaly if it works loose while planing etc it is due to fine dust under the...

Close call and a lucky escape....

Have you considered having a large CO2 extinguisher fitted to the side of the drum with the nozzle fitted to vent into the system when the handle is pulled. this would deprive any fire in the bucket of air and give time to extract things safely. In this case I think it is mainly due to the...

    Separate garage insurance

I think Zurich still do a homeworkshop insurance and I believe unless you are on an actual working farm of some kind NFU have stopped doing so for hobbyists.

    Scroll saw

+1 For AES comments above. He beat me to it. The main factor is to make sure that whatever saw you get, it takes pinless blade or you will have a nightmare of a time with all those internal cuts.

Joint Genie - gone out of business? Best alternative dowelling jigs?

Have look at the review of various dowel jigs that are available from Banggood that Denis of "Hooked on Wood" did on his Youtube channel. There are 2 or 3 vids (part of the China Tools series), looking at several different options. I too have the Wolfcraft and have liked using for years, Though...

Apple AirTags Used To Find Stolen Tools?

They work, there have been a few cases of them being used by stalkers to keep tabs on people and have been used by some of the Ukrainian farmers to prove to John Deere that their tractors have been half inched by the Ruskkis and have had JD then then disable all the software on the bit of kit...
