What is the most chatoyant wood?

For me, although at times a nuisance (in that it makes matching more difficult or restrictive), if I am veneering a couple of doors/drawer fronts etc for a piece and want to have the chatoyance shimmer in the same direction then it can limit me as the maker of the piece as to what joint type I...

Matchfit dovetail clamp system or UJK dovetail T track for the mitre track on router table?

@petermillard , when you did your new router table recently, did you consider using the dovetail system rather than an extrusion for the mitre fence of the table?

what does the inside of this door panel look like to people?

If it is the door to the room there is every chance that it is asbestos filler in order to act as a fire door. The pic below is of the interior of an old 50s asbestos fire door this should have appeared near the start, forgot to hit post reply

    Plough and Rebate plane advice

With regard to wanting a plough plane, I have a complete but disassembled one. The body is toast and I was going to get a nice block of something with character and use the old body as a template to make a new one. However as I already have one it has sat in a drawer in the wksp for about 5...

Matchfit dovetail clamp system or UJK dovetail T track for the mitre track on router table?

The name says it all in regard to the mitre. By all means have the dovetails all over the bench top & sides if it is being used as a MFT or to give clamping flexibility but as a guideway for use on a router table to guide my mitre fence/sled, then the metal channel every time due to, friction...

    Cutting Veneers on a Bandsaw

One of the best ways of sawing your own veneers is to use a bandsaw with a single point fence. Just found the gadget below which would be a great tool to use in that respect...

What is the most chatoyant wood?

A leaf is each slice taken from a log when the intended purpose of the removed piece is to be used as a veneer and typically ranges in modern process between 0.6 - 1.5mm but can be upto 5 - 6mm thick when hand sawn such as was the common practice in the 17/18/19 00's cabinet making. When a full...

What is the most chatoyant wood?

Personaly, I use quillted, spalted, flame, crotch and birds eye as these are varieties that I can get either as a pre-cut leaf or in chunks I can hand saw into leaves myself. However they are expensive and can be hit or miss as to availibility.

    Working with Honey Locust wood

Check the wooddatabase for info Re resawing, yes but be aware there is a very high probability rather than possibility that the wood will cup or go into wind after cutting. You may have to store it between some cauls for a couple of months after sawing to allow it to destress and acclimate to...
