Advice regarding an eBay purchase (this is a current problem, so advice today is required- if possible)

I smell a rat! Very doubtful that you'll get the cash with the parcel and yes the hassle of $10 USD in NZ even if you did get the money. Insist that he credits you as re. Payment method. Good luck.

    Idea's for a 60mm slab of chestnut?

Evening Folks! Just wondering how best to utilise a trunk of chestnut that I have already cut a 60mm off of it already? I've made a few small bowls and a slightly larger one already. I was thinking about making a plate/platter/shallow bowl from the 60mm slab. Rough dimensions are 350mm x 400mm...

Is there a catch all sharpening system?

Just a thought but might not what you had in mind, I'm using my 3" belt sander turned upside down in a jig I've made myself. I'm using zirconium belts and use it to sharpen my gouges as have recently purchased a second hand lathe. I've made a tool support that I can adjust the angle and if I...

Padster, the bowl looks very good and similar to a bowl I made from some chestnut. Well done.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Hi Folks. I put up some perspex shelves today to show off some bowls I've made. Idea being that you can see underneath the shelf when coming up the stairs.

Did you buy any cheap tools that surprised you with being actually good?

I purchased a set of 4 Rolson hooks and a bradawl some years back in a local high road shop probably only about £1.00. They've been great. Rubber handles so can get a good grip on them and have never broken or bent them. Have worn down the right angled hook a bit but that was from scrapping out...

    New Bandsaw

Tom, finally got round to see the Centauro saw today and the bloody thing doesn't exist! Bit of an anti climax but not the 1st time here I've experienced this kind of thing. So 2 were advertised on their website and either been sold or somewhere else. He wasn't very complimentary about the...

    New Bandsaw

Domingos, that's too big and a bit pricey for what I'm after. Will only use it for cutting up blanks for turning. Will use a chainsaw to cut the trunks and then the band saw for getting them round. Really only need a cutting height of 200mm more or less. Hopefully can have a look at the Centauro...

    New Bandsaw

Tom. Many thanks for info. I'll copy a photo of the Centauro. Can't show the N'Ra however. Don't know what models or height of cut however.

    New Bandsaw

So you think that they are good deal's for €600? I haven't seen either yet but the photos look promising. I looked at an old bandsaw recently but didn't have a brand name. Unfortunately didn't have any sort of guard/protection for the blade and the guy said that it has come off before! God knows...

    New Bandsaw

Just to add, I've fortunately got 3 phase power so can either go single or 3 phase but as Ttrees mentioned above you can get a VFD. I've seen a N'Ra bandsaw for €600 that looks promising in Olx but haven't viewed it yet. An Italian make I think.

    New Bandsaw

Domingos, bom dia! I'm living in Portugal and oddly enough looking for a bandsaw/serra fita also as want to cut up blanks for turning. I'm probably looking to spend max €600 but there are a few 2nd hand machines on Olx and Custo Justo. Have you looked? Ok a lot are 3 phase but I think that they...

How much grease on the bearings of lathe?

Paul. Ive attached some photos but the lathe doesn't have a make but seem to be pretty common over here. Cheers

How much grease on the bearings of lathe?

Clogs, thanks for the feedback. Got some photos so will try and attach. Just to add. When I first got the lathe I packed them both full grease and put it on high speed and there was seepage coming through so I wonder if oil would simply seep out? As to the faceplate saga, in my ignorance I...
