    WIP - Pirate's (ish) Chest

Making progress - still! Backs of insets chiselled off and filled- this is why I was unsure about oiling the chest - the oil I assume will make the filler stand out a bit! The first end glued up, I could have done both ends but a couple of my sash clamps appear to have vanished somewhere...

    WIP - Pirate's (ish) Chest

Whilst the top was doing it's thing, I turned to the box (complicated curved bit made first and then the simpler box can be made to fit!) I wanted it to be pretty as well as functional so I decided to set in some flowers that I had bought for 25p each when the local B&Q was remodelled. The...

    WIP - Pirate's (ish) Chest

I decided that my niece (3) could have a chest this year for keeping all her other wooden toys in. Having made the lid, thanks to forum folk, I have the lid straightened - although having been on holiday for a week, a hot garage increased the twist in the wood quite a lot. I put the ends on...

Round Chest Lid (need true-ing help)

Life got in the way - again - last night. Guides marked and currently building up courage to start shaving - looks a bit messy but it mostly filler on the surface. Wine(ish) bottle for scale (yet another project!) Thank you for all your help gentlemen - hopefully a finished item before too...

Round Chest Lid (need true-ing help)

Thanks for that, is how I have made the chest but the top comprises 22 battens which are each 23mm wide at the top - rather than the 9 shown to make the curve smoother. I think I will go for the planing option for twist correction first- hopefully I can use a plane with crossed fingers...

Round Chest Lid (need true-ing help)

I have made a curved lid for a (pirate's style) chest by routing one side of each piece of wood with a dovetail bit to give the curve using 22 strips of timber - but....due to the grain of the wood (read my incompetence / inaccuracy) the assembly is not entirely true - only three of the corners...

    Startrite mercury advice

I have been offered a Mercury (at a cost) to replace my Ferm bench drill. The Ferm is not excellent but it is 500w. The startrite is 370w but generally considered better - should I go for the mercury - will it drill the same capacity as the ferm (considering I put 68mm forstner bits through...

    Rutlands - Desperation or ?

Running the risk of being the one with his head above the parapet - is this a bad option for a child's glockenspiel? My wife wants one made for one of our nieces The bars look better than the option of getting a second hand one off Flea-buy and robbing the bars. what does everyone know that...
