T-track on router table fence: on the front or the top?

Well... ... I was going to say "try a half nut on the thread" but before making a total twit of myself I put some callipers on the thread of mine - 9.3mm OD (which isn't exactly helpful), and FWIW the clamp's thread is similar. The unthreaded bit isn't circular, but is around 8.35mm. So that...

    Joint Bits

Would this, perchance, be a present for someone? You can get various sets from Rutlands. I don't have any of theirs but the consensus seems to be they're pretty reasonable quality, but the really good quality stuff is from Wealden, CMT, Titman and possibly Axminster (I have several of their...

T-track on router table fence: on the front or the top?

I have a pair of these: https://www.axminster.co.uk/ujk-technology-universal-fence-clamps-pair-502711 Although mine were bought from Amazon (more cheaply), they're pretty good (and apparently identical, apart from the colour). They might be a good solution, but obviously the "proper" fence...

    Replacing upstairs floorboards...best way?

Bluntly, I think that is pretty much a total waste of effort, and very expensive, too. You will "take the curse off" footfalls above (reduce the higher frequency component), probably, but 9/10ths of the noise will still get through. It's simple: floorboards are a noisy surface to start with...

Best set-up for boring deep wide holes?

Nope you're right, I haven't. but part of the skill is breaking down an awkward task into processes that do work. If the objective is a hole concentric with a cylinder, then a lathe would, to an extent make that job easier. And once the drill starts guiding itself (if it's an auger or a...

Best set-up for boring deep wide holes?

Don't forget that a tailstock drill should self-centre, whereas a pillar drill won't. I'd think that would make quite a difference. Also I have successfully welded rod onto ordinary twist drills in the past to extend their length (but only for dolls' house construction - a bit easier and...

    GDPR

I know. We've been going through the whole thing with our clients for months now - hence the thing about someone getting sued, somewhere. I was amazed when I read the email, expecting some common sense things to do (like, say, asking permission of the locals and rules on data security, etc.)...

    GDPR

Nice. I got an email from the area Neighbourhood Watch lot this week saying they had "taken advice" and that no action was necessary for local groups. There's an interesting lawsuit waiting to happen... E.

    ?????

The Mobius triangles, etc. are smart, but that really must have taken some thought (and a lot of time on SketchUp!). Enjoyed it.

Axminster TS-250 Table Saw Blade twist(yaw) on rise/fall

[edited to correct inaccuracies] It does sound like a bad unit, but: I've owned both the Kity 419 and the earlier version of the TS 200, which is very much based on the Kity (not the other way round) as far as I could tell. I have stripped down both models completely. Note that in both cases...

Is this forum now really quiet?

It goes in cycles a bit - at this time of year we're all out making stuff (I'm on a coffee break!). E.

    Domino 700 - which accessories?

I get it, absolutely. I learned three rules a long time ago: 1. start with absolute squareness and flatness*, 2. measure extremely carefully (and use the same tool for measuring each time), 3. joinery first, before shaping. There are possibly exceptions to (3) but in my very limited...

    Domino 700 - which accessories?

Thanks. I'm hoping to use Accoya for most of these projects and was thinking about 'rolling my own' dominoes too. I checked on the uncut lengths whilst I was in the Festool dealer yesterday and they are rather expensive two or three quid (plus VAT), which is silly really. I also spent a happy...

    Replacing upstairs floorboards...best way?

Couple of thoughts: Speaking as an ex-professional sound engineer (and properly trained, to boot), for noise above or (occasionally) from underneath, structural transmission is by far the worst problem in older buildings. The entire floor can act as a drum skin - resonating with whatever is...

    Domino 700 - which accessories?

Thanks to another forum member's kindness (with a voucher), I'm about to pull the trigger on a Domino XL purchase. It's going to be doors, doors and more doors in the main, and I'm hoping to do a few test projects over the summer, with the big batch (eight or ten interior doors, three or four...

Thanks - that's very helpful, especially as I have been wondering about them. E.

    Puzzle help

I reckon Coley's explanation is far better than you'd get from the book! It looks to be the same puzzle as I mentioned, and apparently the same as your pieces! :-)

    Puzzle help

I have a book of similar puzzles. If you can remember what shape it should be once completed, I can probably look it up and photograph the pages. But the diagrams weren't too easy to follow, IIRC. E. PS: The book is American: "Puzzles in Wood" by E.M.Wyatt (2007 reprint from a 1956 original)...

    Mac Book pro acting weird

Now is definitely the time to double-check you have backed-up everything on it that you don't want to lose. Having done that, I think I would want to rebuild it, software- and operating-system-wise. But when you say it is getting hot when it is supposed to be suspended, that means something...

    Forum for proffesoonals?

Please, please don't suggest that what you do isn't skilled or not important. Quite a few of us have industrial backgrounds, from back when that was something Britain generally did. And one of the huge issues for everyone on here is the simple challenge of taking a natural material and bending...
