Leitz tooling, Bristol - what time do they open?

Sammy, you were spot on. 3x 160mm rail saw blades; 1x 250mm general purpose. All sharper than when they were new. It took 1 1/2 hours altogether (left home at 0755h). As the crow, it's less than 5 miles, I think. There are reasons to be there in person too.

Leitz tooling, Bristol - what time do they open?

Anybody know what time they open in the morning? There's zilch on their web site, which was fine twenty years ago... I think it's pretty early, but they're in a rather busy part of town, and ideally I'd like to get in and out without getting too caught in commuter traffic. Have some blades to...

    Paint Sprayer for DIY use

Today I very nearly bought the Graco. Instead I pulled the trigger on a Wagner airless. I got advice from one of the paint-spraying specialist companies that the Graco (the one that Peter M. uses) couldn't deliver the pressure and flow rate I need for smooth masonry paint, which will be its...

    Biscuit jointer.

I have one too. I found it impossible to use for biscuits, but it is handy (with different sizes of bearing) for making grooves, and occasionally rebates. The proper biscuiter gives much more accurate slots*, and lets you biscuit for shelves, etc. in the middle of a board, where you can't fit...

    Makita track saw blades

    1. The official Makita blades are 165mm diameter, BUT the Festol TS55 blades are only 160mm. Thus there are more third-party alternatives available at 160mm than 165. I use both sizes in my SP6000k, but they have, so far, all been Makita ones (yes, Makita make the smaller size too, so be careful...

    Biscuit jointer.

I think you have answered you own question. :-) I try as much as possible not to use the fence on the Makita. There's nothing wrong with it, but using the baseplate avoids my own mis-setting mistakes. On the occasions I have needed it, it's been spot-on and hasn't let me down. It matters if...

    Biscuit jointer.

I have an older-style Makita (blue all along the motor casing). It's excellent. But I have heard, possibly from here, that they are now building down to a price point (and there have been quality issues). You need the fence to stay true and square to the slot, and the slot to be accurately...

Blade and splinter guard for new track saw

Doug you're right, and unfortunately it does matter: Ignoring the warning on the reseller's web site about incompatibility , I bought a very cheap rip blade for my SP6000k, as I had some actual, real wood to rip. It was a disaster: the blade had a very thin saw plate, and, although the overall...

Blade and splinter guard for new track saw

    1. What is the official kerf of the supplied blade? If it's the same as Festool/Makita blades (2.4mm IIRC), you have quality alternatives... 2. You can always move the existing splinter strip out a bit (usually held on with DS tape) and cut a new edge on it. 3. It's a 165/20 blade officially I...

    Door Gluing Chaos

I'm working up to this problem at the moment (my first foray into dominoes, too). I'd twigged there was an issue, from experience biscuiting and other M+T glue-ups, but I hadn't realised that dominos are as dry-shrunk as they seem to be (as supplied). It's frustrating, as generally I really like...

Using EU Power Tools in the UK

Fair points, both. Places like Toolstation occasionally sell tools with 13A plugs clipped onto 2-pin continental ones. I'm not sure this is strictly legal, but it is certainly the case thst such an arrangement will get hot, which is a BAD thing. I usually cut them off and fit a proper 13A plug...

How Dangerous are Metal Bodied Powertools?

PS: There was a version of the AVO8 made with a much higher resistance coil (10k Ohms, IIRC). This is helpful for some measurements and makes it more useful for electronics work, but for electrical testing, probably not so. They also use batteries that are nowadays unusual - these can be had...

How Dangerous are Metal Bodied Powertools?

Depends what it's for, but for mains testing, personally I'd pick up an old AVO 8 from ebay or similar. They usually clean up well, and the electronics can be repaired, and they may even be recalibrated (expensively, but AVO are based in Dover, UK, IIRC) but it is _essential_ that they are...

Using EU Power Tools in the UK

Yes. It will be more mechanically robust to use a Schuko plug with a UK mains trailing socket though. Electrically it makes no difference.

    Old Stanley screwdrivers

I've got a wet, "Tormekalike" grinder. It's not much use for sharpening, but it's handy for repairing damaged edges, etc. (and doing primary bevels). It's also pretty good for cabinet screwdrivers, because a careful hollow grind gives you a nice square tip. I completely get the problem of...

Sorry, but I have a buyer, pending collection.

    Wifi Doorbell

That's a bit weird. Surely it's DC being injected onto the twisted pair cable (CAT 5 or 6), in which case it shouldn't emit anything (unless there is a fault somewhere). If the CAT 5 is radiating that much, I'd expect the ethernet performance to be abysmal too, as there must be a massive...

    You Tube Vids

OK, boats AND parrots: I'll be a subscriber then. :-) We haven't kept parrots for >20 years, but I miss ours hugely. Still have a picture of one of ours on my desk... like any intelligent animal they need attention, and kindness, but it's repaid many times over. They make excellent pets...

    Painting Iron Gates/Railings

Not nowadays as the formula has changed substantially. Flag's equivalent was a very good alternative until recently, but Toolstation/Wickes have stopped selling it, and it's hard to find (unless you want a pallet-full!). I have tried the new eco-friendly Hammerite formula. Utter pants...

    It takes one, etc.

After the first day of their talks, Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un have apparently issued the following brief communique: "The meetings with the dictator are going extremely well." .
